Casting has been announced for The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk which will open at the Bristol Old Vic in June as part of the theatre’s 250th anniversary season of work.

The production will star Marc Antolin as Marc and Audrey Brisson as Bella. Antolin's theatre credits include The Trial (Young Vic), Amadeus (Chichester Festival Theatre) and From Here To Eternity (Shaftesbury Theatre) whilst Canadian singer and performer Brisson's credits include Dead Dog in a Suitcase & Other Love Songs and The Elephantom (National Theatre).

Emma Rice directs the production which celebrates the relationship between Kneehigh and the Bristol Old Vic. The show will later tour to Shakespeare’s Globe as part of Rice's inaugural season as artistic director, The Nuffield, Southampton and The Asylum.

Written by Daniel Jamieson, The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk draws on the early life of artist Marc Chagall and his partner Bella as they get caught up in the confusion and brutality of world wars, revolution, ethnic persecution and the murder and exile of millions.

The show features movement and original Yiddish, Klezmer music from Ian Ross and James Gow, inspired from Russian Jewish folk tradition.
