Norfolk & Norwich Festival – Highlights for 16-22 May

Dance and other movement-based theatre predominates in the second (and final) week of this year’s Norfolk & Norwich Festival. At the EPIC Studios between Monday 16 and Wednesday 18 May Mariano Pensotti, the Argentinian artist, presents The Past is a Grotesque Animal.

Over at the Playhouse, Tuesday 17 May sees the Thai dancer Pichet Klunchun paying tribute to Nijinsky’s Danse Siamoise with a multi-media show that incorporates nag yai puppets. That’s followed the next evening by Klunchun’s collaboration with French conceptual choreographer Jerome Bel. Friday and Saturday 20 and 21 May brings the Ballet Nacional de España to the Theatre Royal with the flamenco Dualia and José Antonio’s La Leyenda.

Tilted Productions is a company which likes to challenge its audiences – on the Cromer seafront in this instance. Seasaw evokes the seaside’s past, present and the possible future in ten free (but bookable) daytime performances between Wednesday 18 and Sunday 22 May. As The World Tipped is a Wired Aerial Theatre spectacular premiering in Eaton Park on the evening of Saturday 21 May to swirl this year’s festival to a triumphant conclusion.
