All yellow brick roads lead to Hull this Christmas

Hull Truck Theatre has announced the cast for this year’s family-friendly festive offering, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

From 7 December 2012 to 13 January 2013, theatregoers young and old can revisit old friends Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tinman and the Cowardly Lion. Starring as Dorothy is former Hollyoaks actress Dominique Jackson, who played Lauren Valentine in the popular Channel 4 show. She says:

“The theatre is at the heart of the city and it’s my first time in Hull. This is a really unique show especially with the music and the storyline. It’s a different take on the Oz which people will already know about and I can’t wait for everyone to come and see it.”

Jackson will be joined by Stephen Lloyd as Scarecrow, fresh from his success in Reasons to be Cheerful earlier in 2012. The cast will be supported by local schoolchildren as the munchkins and the Wicked Witch’s flying monkeys.

This is an original production, featuring new songs by Barbara Hockaday. Set in East Yorkshire rather than Kansas, this Christmas treat promises all the magic of the old-time favourite but reworked with a local, modern feel.

Andres Smaje, Chief Executive at Hull Truck Theatre says: “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a classic story for all the family – from children to parents to grandparents. It’s pure escapism and a great night out full of Christmas fun. Audiences can expect all the warmth and magic and music of a true Hull Truck Christmas!”
