Sneak Peak at the New Theatre Royal Newcastle
Last night the people who became patrons of the Theatre Royal restoration were allowed view the venue in all its new restored glory. Being one of those patrons, I, along with my family, took our place on stage (having entered by the stage door) and after a brief speech the safety curtain rose to reveal the auditorium in all its magnificent splendour.
The transformation is fantastic, the new red seats, tiling on the walls of the stalls, new boxes in the back of the Grand Circle and Upper Circles, opening up of the Grand Circle bar and new foyer layout being just some of the highlights.
There were finishing touches still being done but there is no doubt that audiences from Monday night onwards are in for a new experience. The Grand Old Lady of Grey Street is back with a bang and I for one cannot wait to take my seat once again; roll on 7.30 Monday!
