Carriageworks Given Arts Council Funding Boost

The Carriageworks in Leeds has been boosted with a funding award of over £8,000 from the Arts Council England for its programme of events this autumn.

The funding from the Grants for the Arts scheme has been given support its forthcoming Freshly Picked season which showcases some of the best theatre and performances from across the country.

Freshly Picked runs throughout September, October and November and features award winners such as Theatre ad Infinitum whose Translunar Paradise (Fri 23 Sept) was one of the hits of this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and Operation Greenfield (Fri 28 Oct) from Herald Angel Award Winners Little Bulb amoungst other various highlights.

The past two years have proved extremely successful for The Carriageworks, with the theatre seeing an increase of 25 per cent in its audience levels and approximately 50,000 people attending in the last year alone.

General manager at The Carriageworks Martin McInulty said:

“We’re thrilled with the support that the Arts Council England has shown in giving us this grant. The venue has developed enormously in the last few years and it’s great to see it getting this kind of recognition. Freshly Picked is all about bringing exciting and innovative theatre to Leeds. We’re incredibly excited about the shows we have lined up and can’t wait to share them with our audiences.”
