Truck to Auction Items from Spring Street

The contents of Hull Truck’s former base, Spring Street Theatre, are to be auctioned next week. The event, which is to be held on 13 May and hosted by auctioneering firm Gilbert Baitson, will see bidding for items such as theatre seats and office equipment, and its proceeds will be channelled into Truck’s ongoing fundraising programme.

The 290 seater was originally converted from a church hall. It served as Truck’s home between 1983 and 23 April this year, when the company departed for its new £15m premises on Ferensway, shortly before the premiere of creative director John Godber’s Funny Turns.

Development coordinator Daniel Kelly described the auction as “a once in a lifetime opportunity for people to get their hands on some genuine Hull Truck Theatre seats. Spring Street was known throughout the country as a truly unique venue, and this auction offers people the chance to buy a piece of its history.”

In addition to the event, Truck is currently operating several fundraising schemes. As well as Take a Seat, whereby theatregoers are offered the chance to dedicate a seat in the new building’s 440 seat main house, it has re-launched Truck Friends, and plans to re-launch Star. Its total income from all projects since 2004 has been over £350,000.

Details of all items up for sale will be made available on www.gilbert-baitson.co.uk/diary.aspx
