Yorkshire Tour for Mike Bartlett’s Love Love Love

Fresh from its premier at The Drum Theatre Plymouth, Love Love Love, a new play by Olivier Award winner Mike Bartlett makes a quick stop at Stephen Joseph Theatre followed by a run at West Yorkshire Playhouse in April. The Yorkshire leg of the tour continues in May at Hull Truck Theatre. This play follows success of Bartlett’s Earthquakes in London which was hailed as ‘the best new play of the year’ by The Stage following its premier at The National in August 2010.

Bartlett, a University of Leeds graduate won his Olivier Award for outstanding achievement in affiliate theatre with Cock at the Royal Court in 2010. Bartlett has also won the old Vic New Voices Award for Artefacts (The Bush Theatre) and the Writer’s Guild Tinniswood and Imison prizes for Not Talking (BBC Radio).

Described by The Guardian’s Lyn Gardner as ‘Mike Leigh on Ecstasy’, the play ‘takes on’ the baby boomer generation as it retires, following the forty year relationship of Kenneth and Sandra from initial burst in 1967, through to full bloom, to bust and then to reunion in 2011. Even as pensioners, Kenneth and Sandra are blissfully ignorant of the impact that their irresponsible behaviour and marriage break up has had on their children.

James Grieve, co-Artistic Director of Paines Plough directs the production following his success with Fly Me To The Moon by Marie Jones, Tiny Volcanoes by Laurence Wilson and various credits with The Bush Theatre (including award winning Artefacts by Bartlett).

The cast of Love Love Love includes Ben Addis, James Barrett, Simon Darwen, Lisa Jackson and Rosie Wyatt.
