Win! Tickets to see The Mill – City of Dreams

An exciting new promenade theatre production, exploring the historical impetus and struggle behind the stories of those that migrated to work in the Mills of Bradford, as well as those of the City’s current inhabitants, is set to be the must-see theatrical experience this spring.

Produced by Bradford-based Freedom Studios, and featuring the city’s local communities, The Mill – City of Dreams will have its World Premiere from 29 March-16 April at 8pm, at the site-specific location of Drummonds Mills, Manningham in Bradford.

The textile mills of Bradford sit majestically, speaking to and about the landscape that surrounds them. They are history; they are the present, and our unforgiving truth. An echo of their former selves to some, but if you stand still long enough in their empty shells, the deafening sounds of machinery, men and women, children and hope continue to reverberate. These mills belong to the city of Bradford and its people and their dreams.

Inspired by and created for the people of Bradford, this extremely visual theatre work will take place in a disused mill in Manningham – a huge physical space that once throbbed and hummed with very particular sounds and activities. The mill will be animated by dramatic sound and light effects, which will transform the spaces so that they are both intimate and epic.

The Mill – City of Dreams is part of Imove, a new and imaginative celebration of human movement, bringing together the best creative talent from the region to produce a programme of events designed to inspire the public in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic  Games funded by Legacy Trust UK, Arts Council England and Yorkshire Forward.

The production is also funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Bradford Council and the original sound composition by Janek Shaefer is supported with funds from the PRS for Music Foundation.
