Alternative Royal Wedding Cast Confirmed

The cast of Cinderella 2 has been finalised and they pledge to bring mayhem, fun and frolics to the rehearsed read through of the comedy play at the Customs House in South Shields on Friday 29 April.

The show, written by Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood, is being produced by South Shields-based Ion Productions and staged as an alternative to the Royal Wedding.

Director Jackie Fielding said: “The play is about Cinderella calling for Buttons to rescue her from the clutches of the evil prince she has married. It’s very funny and will appeal to children of all ages, from five to 85.”

Jackie, who directed to duo’s international hit comedy Waiting For Gateaux and London-bound The Revengers, continued: “We have a fantastic cast, all of whom have been seen at the Customs House recently.”

Louis Roberts, who starred in Raising The Stakes, will play Prince Charming; Rachel Teate, who appeared in the Customs House pantomime, is Cinderella; Dandini is played by Rachel Adamson, who was in Motherland and Steven Stobbs, who played the lead role in Son of Samurai at the Latitude Festival, is Buttons.

Iain Cunningham, star of panto and a Boyle Yer Stotts founder member, will play the Fairy Godfather.

Producer Gareth Hunter said: “Our initial thought was to have an alternative party for people who aren’t into the monarchy or the pomp and expense of a Royal Wedding. “We expected around 80 people to come along for a laugh but we’ve already sold 70 tickets by word of mouth and ironically this will probably turn out to be the biggest party on Royal Wedding day in the region.”

Cinderella 2 is on Friday 29 April in the Customs House community room and starts at 6.30pm. Tickets cost £4 from the box office – (0191) 4541234
