Theatre Royal Extends Pantomime

Theatre Royal Newcastle has extended the run of its record-breaking pantomime in order to meet overwhelming public demand for tickets.

The show traditionally runs for seven weeks between November and January. However, demand for tickets has already been so high for the 2011/12 pantomime Sleeping Beauty that the theatre has decided to extend the run to eight full weeks.

Last year’s Theatre Royal panto Robin Hood shattered all previous box office records, achieving sales in excess of £1 million before the run even opened, and becoming the fastest selling pantomime in the UK. Over 40,000 tickets have already been sold for Sleeping Beauty, as customers are eager to book before the best seats sell out.

Philip Bernays, Chief Executive of the Theatre Royal, said: “Our pantos have established themselves as probably the best and fastest selling in the country. We have such an unprecedented demand for tickets that we felt it was only fair to our audiences to offer an additional week of Sleeping Beauty. That way, more people will get to see the show, there will be more choice for dates and seats, and no-one will miss out!”

The Theatre Royal’s favourite double act, multi-award-winning pantomime legends Danny Adams and Clive Webb will be back again by overwhelming popular demand playing Muddles and The King respectively. Plus no panto would be complete without the best-dressed dame in the country, the North East’s own Chris Hayward, in his 27th panto appearance, this time as The Queen.

Sleeping Beauty – the Pantomime of your Dreams will now appear at the Theatre Royal from Tuesday 29 November 2011 to Saturday 21 January 2012. Tickets are priced at £10.50 – £27.50 and can be purchased from the Theatre Royal Box Office on 08448 11 21 21 or select your own seat and book online at the Theatre Royal Website.
