Read in Saturday's Guardian supplement that Alan Cumming is coming over here to do his one-man show at The Vaudeville first week of Sept. A friend of mine saw this show in NY and was blown away by it. I think AC is mainly based in the US these days, so I'm definitely going to catch this show before he disappears back to Broadway/ Hollywood etc again. Anyone else planning to go along ?

Too right! I'm seeing his show and the late nighter he is doing with a whole load of other WE stars including Hannah Waddingham, Emma Williams, Julie Atherton and the gorgeous Alex Silber on the 3rd of September.
Can't wait - Haven't seen him since his stunning Cabaret in NY.

I have to say Seb I'm very tempted by the late night cabaret too (great line-up) so might see you there ! The last time I saw AC was when he did Cabaret at The Donmar - a performance I will never forget - just spellbinding.

Hope to see you there! I am sitting in the stalls. I'm assuming that since it starts at 23.00 it won't be hugely long but the tickets are quite reasonable and since I'm there for the evening show it seems stupid not to go. biggrin.gif

Yup,I'll be there in the stalls too and I thought exactly the same as you ( so great minds do think alike tongue.gif ), since I'm going to be there for Alan's show on that night , it seemed nuts blink.gif not to stay for the late night cabaret ( I am a huge fan of Julie Atherton's too, so it was a bit of a no-brainer for me !)

I have only seen the Donmar performance of Cabaret with Alan & Jane Horrocks on Youtube - anyone know where I can find it on DVD? As it was absolutely amazing and I would love to buy it.

It's never been (legally) released on video or DVD or even, as far as I know, re-broadcast. sad.gif

The Broadway one with Cumming and Richardson was even better! Such a shame it wasn't filmed.. sad.gif

I love the soundtrack recording from that, but really wish it had been filmed.

Was the filmed Donmar performance just a one off show or was it there for a while?

December '93 to March '94. If I remember correctly the TV broadcast was cut down quite a bit, but I'm not 100% certain about that.

I too was at both shows last night. Alan Cumming was a revelation. I could honestly have sat and listened to him talk forever. The emotion and interpretation he put into the song selection was dazzling and he came across as thoroughly charming guy to boot. So glad I didn't miss it.

Might try and get to Dress Circle for his signing on Saturday as didn't have time to queue and pick up the show CD last night and it would be interesting to see if he is that enthralling up close and personal. (Sounding like a fangirl now....sorry) It's been a while since I've enjoyed something in the West End this much.

I LOVED this show. So many highlights but I guess my biggest faves were the Hedwig Medley and the Dolly Parton/ Mika mash up. Also thought the song written for Alan's husband (Next To Me) was gorgeous. I may just have to splash out and go and see the show again tomorrow. Such a shame the run is so short really.

I went along to see Alan Cumming and his show was fantastic. A good mix of stories and songs. Was so impressed, his performance of the songs were so moving and funny and what a fab voice he has. Hope he does bring it back again or something similar. Really great night out. laugh.gif

Did anyone go to Dress Circle when Alan was there or have heard how busy it was, etc?!

My friend was there and he said that it wasn't as busy as the recent signings with Daniel Boys or Ryan Malloy - but that Alan was incredibly lovely and spent ages chatting to everyone.
