I think I'll be definitely taking a trip down there now!
Any news on who the new Edna will be?
Guest
Peter Kay until just after Christmas.
Guest
i definatly wont be taking a trip down there now.
Singingadream
Peter Kay's name was being thrown around a while ago...
Really not keen on the idea of him playing Edna.
I get the feeling he'll play it like the utter randomness that was Geraldine (i wouldn't be suprised if it was 'Geraldine' who played Edna).
Belinda Carlisle... I just don't get why?
Known for a while about Sharon taking over seems like the news is out now i cannot wait and will return to see hairspray just to see her.
Guest
Meh. Not interested at all really in these 2. Sharon yeah but the other 2 no.

Peter Kay = definitely not, new Edna TBA v soon!

^ Hope you're right! Though at least if a "celebrity" is stunt-cast as Edna it'd be possible to avoid seeing them as there's an alternate.

He has mentioned before how much he would like the role, and he auditioned for Wilbur for the original cast.

CHRIS BARTON - IQ COVER LINK

If I turned up at Hairspray and saw they'd put Barton on as Link, I would be screaming for my money back. He'd look like a great IQ, but as Link? Good grief.

I mentioned the Belinda Carlisle thing AGES ago and got laughed at, to the point where I didn't even believe it myself anymore! I'm glad it's happening though.

How do you know.?
Hove you ever seen Amy Ross?

GuestWill
Clearly a statement like that can not be analytic …however I completely love Emma Dodd on stage…Whether she's playing one of; The nicest kids, Velma or the Female authority figure, my eyes go straight to her. She’s an incredible performer, and one of the only that I would happily see a production specifically for even if their role was an ensemble member.
There is no way she’ll top Emma’s performances.

I've seen Chris Barton in three shows now (besides ADWD) and he's actually really good! He studied at the Hammond dance school and his dancing is EXCELLENT! I wouldn't have a problem with him as Link at all.
Guest
I saw him at Hairspray about a month ago & i can totally see him as Link. Hes first cover i believe?

Emi Wokoma is about to start work on Hairspray. She might be a Dynamite?

If I hadn't caught Chris as Joseph in touring Joe I would have agreed with you, spent his time on ADWD laughing at him but then when he came on stage WOWEE he was fantastic, since saw him in Spring and loved him again. I think he will be fab U lous
jack
CHRIS AND AMY are amazing, they have both done some pretty great shows, and have had to compete big time for them. infact the whole new cast have done so well to gt into the show, if u think how many ppl love it andwant to be in the west end version, its a pretty big achievment to be cast in it. as for people amy is a lovly lovely girl, and chris is one of the nicest people i have ever met. he will make a fantastic link! big smile , good singer and good dancer. if u didnt like him on adwd, doesnt mean u wont like him in this, its totally different. and i think the broadway team know what they r doing when they cast the show.....a bit more than u right? u havnt even seen them yet, i dont see how u can possibly know wat hey r gonna be like.... and yes amy might play it slightly different to emma, but thats becuase its a cast change and well, shes not actually emma is she. doesnt mean she wnt do it good. im sure shell be great. its so annoying to see u put down ppl in what is such a hard business anyway. i think u should get up on stage and give it ago ur self and just see how hard it can be, the last thing ppl want is oh hes well swhit, bla bla bla. i mean ur clearly into musical rtheatre etc... so respect the business a bit more and the ppl u are watching, after all they are working hard so u can enjoy the show. grrrr! bring on the new cast i say x

Wow that was hard to read. ^
I know she'll be good as she's been cast.... However I believe Emma Dodd gave it more than it deserved, she literally made each role her own and really got into it. She acted in accordance with the other actors on stage, something others tend to just "phone in"

My god, do you run the Emma Dodd fan site or something?!! Don't you get it? How can you compare 2 performers in a role when you've not even seem both of them?!

How anyone can say that Amy won't be as good when she hasn't even started rehearsals yet? You're talking utter rubbish.

There isnt an Emma Dodd fansite, but if you want to start one i'd happily join!

When the person was referring back to me regarding Emma Dodd and Amy....then what am I supposed to answer with? What a stupid statement.

No...I know Amy will be good...the casting directors are hardly going to pick anyone to cover 6 tracks...but I personally enjoy Emma too much onstage to be willing to admit she'll match her or be better.

I'm pretty sure everyone said this regarding Kerry Ellis taking over from Idina and other performers, so why can't it be used regarding ensemble....thank you.

Does anyone know who'll be taking over Charlotte Riby as Cover Tracy???

Guest_There'sOnlyUs_*
I honestly can't wait until Charlotte Riby gets into a new show. Maybe you will follow her to that. You don't even seem to be a fan of Hairspray, just a fan of Charlotte, Michael Vinsen and Emma Dodd. While i'm sure they are very talented you and a few others just seem to be obsessed with those 3... and you don't even give others a chance. Instead you choose to be disrespectful to other performers because, God forbid they might actually be better than Charlotte, Emma and Michael.

I know everyone can have an opinion, but you can have an opinion in a nice way.

If you were a fan of the show you would not be behaving like a child over certain performers.

Actually I've been posting regarding Emma Dodd, and I've never seen Michael Vinsen....a fan of the show…Sorry why have I seen it 15 times with various actors playing different roles then? Oh yes I like to waste my money?
I may enjoy Emma dodd’s performances and Charlotte Riby, but I’ve seen other actors playing said roles and I enjoy them just as much, in some cases greater.
Guest_There'sOnlyUs_*
Well maybe it isn't you... but there are a few very annoying people out there who wont give other performers a chance. I can do the same thing. Charlotte Riby isn't that great. Her voice is quite annoying and it does not suit the role of Tracy at all. Thats my opinion... I could have kept that part to myself but others don't so why should I?

And I apologise for blaming you... It is just very annoying that there are so many "guests" on this site.
Guest
That’s a fault with the site, not the fans of the show....you can't surely moan about having guests when you post under guest yourself.
I haven’t or don't slate of any of the performers…I think some are better suited to roles than their understudies or sometimes the understudies are better...However I don't insult them like you just did...others may however I don't.

I really beg to differ about you never slagging off people on here! I have just checked all 16 of your posts and about a quarter of them slag various cast members off!

OCTOBER CAST CHANGE 2009
AMY ROSS - SWING COVER FEMALE AUTHORIY

Amy Ross will only be second cover FAF as Catherine Greeney is being bumped up to 1st Cover FAF.

Oh thats great news for Catherine, i really liked her as FAF when i saw her.

So no one knows who the cover tracy is...maybe charlotte's staying?

To be quite honest this thread makes me embarrassed to be a Hairspray fan. I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinons regarding performers but there are ways in which your voice these opinions especially when they are negative. I think someone people forget that this forum is accessible to everyone and i know for a fact that many of the cast read the threads.

Although they can take constructive criticism being plagued continually with posts about 'how bad your voice is, how you screech, who's better then you, being the wrong skin colour etc'  Isn't nice for anyone to read. At the end of the day whether you like it or not the performers are being payed to do a job! (Regardless to say one they had countless auditions for to begin with)

I am sick to death of hearing about the following things about hairspray:
  • Liam being the 'wrong' colour
  • The Dynamites being 'rubbish'
  • Who should have been cast as certain characters instead of others
I feel extremely uncomfortable reading the thread and i ask all the 'guests' to think deeply before they post.

Can we use this thread to continue talk about the NEW CAST starting in October.

Singingadream
(sorry double post)
Dawnstar
I don't quite understand the extensive criticism of the Dynamites. Now I've only seen the show once so maybe I missed something but I only recall them having a few minutes of solo (well, trio!) singing, in "Welcome To The Sixties". Surely however good or less good the performers are they can hardly be accused of ruining the show as a whole given how small the parts are. The way they are being criticised you'd think they had the three lead roles!

Oh and I may as well get in my tuppence worth on Liam, as everyone else has! I haven't seen him in Hairspray but I saw him on as Fiyero in Wicked a few months ago & it never occurred to me that he was anything other than white so, as people don't usually change colour dramatically in a few months, I doubt I'd have a problem with his looks in Hairspray.
