Anyone have any idea what sort of time I'd need to arrive to get in line for the day seats for the Saturday matinee or evening show? Do they sell for both shows at the same time?

Thanks

Both shows are sold at the same time 10.30am, queue starts outside the Donmar main entrance and goes along the wall outside the theatre.
Only 2 tickets per caller so get there early, 8.30-9am to be in with a good chance of securing one.

7.50am is probably a better idea if you want to be CERTAIN/like to be first. People will think "I'll arrive around 8am", so that ten minutes gives you the jump on a surprising number of people who'll pop along at 8ish. smile.gif

For the first preview there were about 4 people there by 7am. If they had the 2 tickets each, then that would have been most of the 10 day seats gone...
Weez
Make it earlier then? laugh.gif But whatever time you decide to go, I do stand by my suggestion of "arrive ten minutes before then". It's like bidding £13.86 on an eBay item to beat the people who bid in round numbers like £13.50. Idiotically simple, but startlingly effective.

Mind you, with this production, it almost sounds like it'd be a bonus to miss out on a day seat and have to go for standing room... wink.gif

Lots of tickets-in stalls -available for a lot of dates in August--are Donmar therefore holding back these seats for September?--go, go, go

They've just released the side end row seats in the stalls and circle, the ones right in the corners which will have a limited view of the stage even though they say they won't, about 10 or so for each performance, they're going fast. Also available in september too.
Now the previews are over and press night is done the theatre has more of an idea if these seats can be used (sightlines, set etc) and as demand has been so high it's worth them releasing them.
Get in quick.

Can someone explain to me the deal with the standby tickets? Are they like returns, so you don't know if there will be anyway, but people begin queuing for them at a ridiculously early time as well? :/ I want to catch Streetcar as well, but my mornings have been stolen when I'm down in london....

Yes, you summed it up rather well! For Othello they queued up for these really early. Obviously you can queue after people have got the day seats in case someone brings back a ticket on the day (I have done this in the past). I don't rate your chances for this one but the queue is inside the shopping complex, so quite hospitable!

Thank you for that info! smile.gif

Inside a shopping complex? Are you talking about Streetcar @ Donmar? I queued in the street with everyone else.
Weez
Day seats = street. Returns = attached shopping complex. smile.gif

I don't know if we should trust Weez. I mean, we need this info coming from someone with experience of queueing for Donmar shows on a regular basis, not just any old WOS poster. wink.gif

She is coming with me in October and we have tickets....but I may have to drag her past the returns queue as she is probably pre-programmed to join any queue at the Donmar! laugh.gif

I'll be easy to spot when we meet up. I'll be the one sat on the floor on a paving stone that is curiously contoured to my needs. wink.gif

Weez if very easy to spot - FACT! wink.gif

I queued yesterday for Streetcar - started at 10.15 but a successful punter had been there since 7.30 am! She DESERVED the tickets, but I'm not sure that it was worth it! By the time I got to the box office, there were only standing tickets left, and at my age, I do not stand!! Later I went back again (after 90 mins) and managed to get an odd one for Sat night performance - it was a long, long evening, and incredibly hot (no air-conditioning?) and despite the majority of the critics going ga-ga over Ms Weiz, I felt that she had wandered in from a different play, and she was totally out of synch with Stella, Stanley and Mitch who all seemed to know what they were doing. Blanche did not elicit sympathy - screaming like a harpy (she ruined "I don't want reality - I want magic!" bawling it at the top of her voice) and the nurse's ugly wrestling match following the oddest-looking rape scene I've ever seen did not make for a sympathetic ending, when one's heart should have been torn out. Don't bother to queue - there will be better Streetcars in days to come, I'm sure. The production needed a central balance, which was obviously lacking, and the addition of supernumeries a-wandering around, didn't help. Sorry, but it was my money after all!

My heart was torn out and I was worried about sobbing too loudly at the end! And I have a sister like Blanche who annoys me no end...so I thought Weiz did a great job in illiciting my sympathy! Just goes to show 2 people can have a completely different view of a play!

How much are the day tickets and how much is standing for Streetcar?
Stevemar
I have one return for Saturday 29 August, 230pm. Stalls seat - side - row A. Price £22. Please PM me if interested. Otherwise, I will return to the box office on Saturday, but I'd rather a keen theatregoer here took the ticket smile.gif (and it might save you queueing!). I will still be attending the show myself, so can hand the ticket over myself.

Is this still going?

Sorry, the ticket has gone, but thanks.

With this being so popular, is there any chance of a West End transfer like Piaf did?

I queued for this last Saturday and got a standing place for the Matinee. I got there just before 8 and finally got served at about 11.30 - there was some problem with the Box Office. Potential queuers need to know that even on sunny days the street is bl**dy freezing!
I enjoyed most of the production and it was cleverly blocked and staged to allow for the thrust stage. No mean feat for a show which relies so much on stifling claustrophobia. Elliot Cowan was a suitably loathsome Stanley (Kowalski is a creation apparently devoid of redeeming qualities IMHO). Ruth Wilson was an excellent Stella although I was in two minds about her apparent rejection of Stanley at the end. My heart would like this to happen but my head tells me that she is too much in thrall to him to do it. I'd be interested to hear what other people think.
I very much admired Rachel Weisz's Blanche. One knew from the moment she entered that this Blanche was doomed. She seemed to drag the weight of tragedy behind her. There were occasional moments when I felt she overpitched the level of Blanche's theatrical hysteria/pretence (especially in the final scene with Mitch) but they were rare. The final scene was perfectly pitched although it was nearly ruined by the two idiots in front of me talking over the final fade to black. GRRRR!

If one were going to queue for a weekday, would 8am or a bit earlier still be advisable, or can you push it a bit later on a weekday? It's just that hypothetically one has trouble waking up so early in the morning possibly rolleyes.gif

I have 1 or 2 tickets available for this saturday performance (12th Sept 7.30pm) to swap (only) for any other day after the 14th of September. Anyone willing to exchange? I could go to the theatre on saturday and swap them in hand.
Many thanks
Eoghan
Don't know how queueueueing for this will compare to Othello, but Othello was an early start - although I think it was the penultimate night that I went for, so all the disorganised folks like me were out in force. With only 10 seats up for grabs, there's less margin for error.

Personally I'll be aiming for 7-7:30, but I tend to get towards the front of these queueues.

I can report from the front line as I queued yesterday, 16 September. The first person queued from 2am, the seats had all gone by about 6 and I'd reckon the standing tickets had gone by 8.30ish perhaps a bit later.

OMG 2am?? blink.gif ohmy.gif huh.gif

Doubt I'll manage to get a day seat if that's the kind of time you need to get there. But I'll ask anyway; where are the day seats located please?

And does anyone have any first hand info on queueing time for returns? Thanks.
itsuckstobeme
2am ?? Are they nuts??

Are they doing day seats this week, with it being the final week?
