Anybody considering going to see this on tour I have one word: Don't!
It was a first for me - the first time I have ever left a theatre before the end of of the play!
I know it was the first night at the Yvonne Arnaud and there are always hiccups but it wasn't a case of mistakes other than desperate dullness.
It's not a play I would have chosen anyway but went with a friend who enjoys a bit of mindless fluff more than me but even she thought it was dire.
For some reason they had two intervals - I thought there must be an elaborate set change but no, the 2nd Act was the exact same room with possibly a little more snow outside the window. We munched our ices and returned in hope of a bit of excitement in the 2nd Act - no chance!
We had ordered drinks for the second interval and as we went to the bar I overheard someone saying "Oh you think it's awful too" to their friend. We came to a decision to leave so I scurried back to grab our coats and we then spent a pleasant half hour drinking.
It wasn't that the acting was that bad although I had awful trouble hearing Philip Madoc's Irish accent clearly but the characters just left you caring absolutely nothing about them.
I'd love to know if we missed out on a stunning final act but somehow I don't think so.
(I noticed a couple of people leaving during the second interval too)

That's a shame! sad.gif

I've seen this play done in the past. I'll grant that it is very much of its time and may seem a little dated, but if done well it has a lot of charm and can be quite affecting.
