I love Musical Theatre, and like many aspiring performers I dream of being in the West End, however, as much as I wish that could happen. I know it won't. Particularly as I can't dance. Well, not that I can't, just that I never have.
At 21 years old.. Where is the best place to start? I have found studios in my hometown that hold classes of all kinds including a Musical Theatre one but I am wondering where to begin... Jazz, Contemp, Ballett?? What is the best style to start progressing with?
I am clueless! x

Ballet. I've been told time and time and time again that ballet is the best foundation, because many other dance styles build off it, and it also helps tone your body in the right way that a weekly salsa (for example) class just won't. :3
If you can take in more, jazz is apparently also a big help, but ballet should ideally always come first.

Completely agree. Ballet is by far the best foundation.

Will third the ballet recommendation. I started dancing very late as well, about 16. At that age, you're never going to develop the turnout for serious ballet, but ballet helps you develop coordination, balance, and strength in areas that are essential for going on to do jazz, tap, modern, etc. You might also consider doing some related body work, like the Alexander Technique.
