Well, just came back from the 1st night of the show. Erm... I really did not know whether I liked it or not. The book was funny but I did not find it particularly well-written and sometimes it is funny but don't deserve as big laughs as they received? if one gets what I mean... Anyway, I thought the story was abit of a cliche. The cast is excellent, I went to watch it only because Paul Keating is in it and he was excellent! He's got the best lines and best moments in the show, I was very impressed and at the same moment, hoping Avenue Q would not close for him to play Princeton/Rod! Both Daniel Finn and Stuart Laing were good and I did not expect the nude scenes. Personally, sometimes it really hit the spot for me and sometimes it can go so cheesy I had to cover my face and sometimes it can get downright sexy. I would give it a 3/5 for this show but from the reaction from the audiences, they loved it, so maybe it's just me! And a WARNING to anyone who's seeing the show: The show's like the Menier... no reserved seatings but wherever you sit, do NOT sit on the right, away from the main block... the view is fine but you miss out the final completely so anyone would has/will see the show please tell me *SPOILER* what Paul typed !!!! Have no clue!

PS: completely out-of-topic, is Joan Rivers playing the theatre early Dec?

Didn't think much of the play either. It has some funny lines and a few moving moments, but it falls into all the pitfalls of bad gay drama. The acting is pretty good and Paul Keating gives an outstanding sensitive and humorous performance, especially given last night was their first non-dress rehearsal.

By the way, this blog and the responses makes an interesting read on the subject of the pink dramatic pen:

Yes, Laughingmonsta, I was aware of this. However, the first performance of this production was also the press night. The producers decided to open without previews. Therefore, the performance the press (and I saw) was the cast's first in front of a "proper" (ie non-dress rehearsal) audience. I don't believe I said it hadn't officially opened.

i saw it and loved it - terrific performance from paul keating - much better than the previous production at sound theatre which was good, but not a patch on this

paul's performance was spot on - i found myself feeling very uncomfortable at points because i had been in the situation that his character was in - and it was very close to home!

i am going to try and see it again!!

I finally got round to seeing this too tonight and I loved it! I dont know what the OP saw but I thought it was brilliant and I am going to catch it again before it goes. Paul Keating is amazing. I shed a tear or ten at the end because of him. I thought it was great. Got a great half price deal from lastminute too.

Evening Standard review was great. Im surprised it wasnt busier
