The tour for this production has commenced, has anyone seen it? Judging by the blurb on the RSC website this could be amazing or a mis-fire...any indication of which it is yet?

I haven't heard anything, but unless 'Nicholas Nickleby' was a miraculous one-off, we should at least be in very safe hands as far as Romeo is concerned. David Dawson is awesome. :3

saw it yest.

quite liked the production - altho so many flick knives and sharp suits in Brighton is a bit distracting.

thought juliet was woeful in parts, which is a shame because the audience were obviously so much on her side.

Saw performance at Lowry. First half was ok; opening quite reviting. Some inventive staging. acting let production down. Romeo was dire. The whole thing shuddered towards the ending which had no emotional impact at all. The play lacked any tenderness or quiet moments; it was full of shouting. The audience remained emotionally detached throughout.

First night in Norwich...

Lots of sharp suits, stomping and meaningful rushing around.

The balcolny scene was excellent..v moving and honest...but the diction overall was unclear, no real separation of characters and just seemed to be the same stuff all the time.

Long..and sorry to say it felt it. Lots of youngsters who must have really wondered what was going on.

Shame

Average overall. Directorial concept and design unsatisfying on the whole. Lighting and sound great, music distracting and irritating. Outstanding Romeo from David Dawson, decent Juliet in Anneka Rose. Rest of the cast very mixed - excellent Capulet and Mercutio, most others not so good. Tybalt and Lady Capulet very poor. For my first RSC production, something of a disappointment. Although anytime David Dawson was onstage, it felt almost worth the ticket price alone.

I hadn't noticed that Laura Rees had been replaced as Juliet due to illness before this opened, so I was mystified when people posted on this thread that Juliet was terrible, as Rees was one of my "dream castings" for that very part, but now it makes more sense. I'm not as disappointed in missing out on this production now, she was basically the one reason that I really wanted to see this one.
