I wonder who people believe to have given the most complete music theatre performance in the uk ever?
Millie Dillmount

Ruthie Henshall in marguerite. I have never felt so strongly about a character before in my life, by the end of the show I just wanted to give her a big hug!

Absolutely agree. When I read the title of this thread, I took it to mean the most wide ranging emotion and most multi-talented (ie dancing/singing and acting).

For me, Ruthie's performance as Marguerite shows this better than any other performance I have ever witnessed. The emotion involved and the physicality involved are just mind blowing and how Ruthie did this 8 times a week I will never know. Having said that, who do we have that would have been better suited to this kind of performance?

For me Ruthie is the definitive Roxie Hart.
Red Momma

Sally Ann Triplett in 'Anything Goes'

Definative!

Dubliner
I think Judi Dench in A Little Night Music

closely followed (in no particular order) by

Hugh Jackman in Oklahoma!
Daniel Evans and Jenna Russell in Sunday in the Park with George
Philip Quast in South Pacific
Michael Ball in Hairspray
Guest
Nathan Lane in The Producers. Totally commanded the stage, cracking voice, and made a very good show a great show.
Joan-E
must agree about Nathan Lane, astonishing performance, also loved Judi Dench in Night Music and Hugh Jackman (those types of parts are hard to pull off). Disagree about Ruthie in M, cos of her singing and Sally-Ann T who I found very underwhelming in the part. In agreement too, however re Michael Ball, Daniel Evans and Tonya Pinkins. Possibly add Julia McKensie as Mrs Lovett, Imelda Staunton as Bakers Wife and Adelaide.....

Michael Jibson in Our House. Total and utter commitment to a complete performance. Brilliant.

Two people in RENT in Manchester, UK (Mimi and Roger). It was a couple of years ago now, no idea if it was legit but I think it was judging from the set and costumes. I saw a video recording of it and they were perfection (and I am a huge RENT geek - I have seen a lot of casts and this was IT for me). I wish I could find out more about them. I *think* they were called Liz and Finch (?)

They both had these amazing, raw voices, great chemistry and their acting just blew me away. I cried so much. They were both beautiful to look at too although she was twig skinny and definitely passed for a dying heroin addict! I don't understand why there's not more information about them! I'm obsessed.

I agree with Red Momma about Sally Ann Triplett. Anything Goes really got under my skin and that was mainly down to her.

Currently playing, I find Linzi Hately gives the complete Donna for me in Mamma Mia.

Another old favourite - Phillip Quast in South Pacific.
Guest
Alexandra Silber as Hodel in "Fiddler on the Roof"

and she's getting there with Carousel too- still bruising it in though ...

he he - there's a surprise - allthatjazz went for Ruthie....i'm not going to reopen that one... ;-)

for me it's :

Zubin Varla in JCS
Sam Spiro, Daniel Evans and Julian Ovenden in Merrily We Roll Along
Rachel Leskovac in Spend Spend Spend
Sally Ann Triplet in Anything Goes
Paul Keating in Closer to Heaven and The Full Monty
Michael Jibson in Our House
Hugh Jackman in The Boy from Oz
Natasha Richardson in Cabaret
Tonya Pinkins in Caroline or Change

and...Keith Jack in Only the Brave.....only joking
grandholmrobbo
Ramin Karimloo in the touring Miss Saigon really moved me.
BUT, I agree with some people above, Michael Jibson in Our House, that really was "giving your all", I was exhausted just watching him.
Anyone know what he is up to these days?
chocfacfan
Glad you agree. He is amazing isn't he?

He did a musical called Take Flight last year at the chocolate factory. He has quite a substantial role in the film "The Bank Job" and he is now playing Puck at the Globe in London - although that may have finished now.

I totally agree and am very happy to hear from someone else praise Ruthie. She certainly is a real pro, one of the 'old school' who really knows how to switch it on when it matters and tone it down when it's necessary. I have had the honour meeting her 3 times also (each time after Marguerite!) and she is such a warm, generous and kind person. She really knows how to treat her fans.

I am still so sad that Marguerite was forced to close so prematurely angry.gif
