I looooove this musical. Well, I love the music, not managed to actually see it on stage yet!

When's it on, does anyone know anything about it? Who's in it? Anyone I'll know?

Catford? Do they do pro shows there?

"Tap, your troubles away....." (Damn those Jerry Herman tunes, I'll be humming that all night now)

Hilarious! I'm feverishly facebooking now to find out who it was!

I'm MDing this production (yes it it is professional, thank you), although it is fringe and therefore not high budget. That said, the producer still breaks out in a sweat every time I mention another musician!

I think the powers that be are in talks with The Players, The New Players, whatever it's called, but I'm not holding my breath. There's a group on facebook. Do come down and see it in Catford, the space is great, the cast is great and the band will be great. Yikes, now I have to live up to that.

Well, that's my shame faced self promotion over with, now back to the arrangements. Yes, they do stick in the head somewhat.

Alex

PS I'm also arranging the music for Sweeney Todd at the Union..... shameless plugs over for now.

And while you're at it you might also want to decide whether to use "Alf" or "Wickeder" as your guest alias.

I feel his pain. Our Sweeney MD originally wanted 23. Then we showed him the size of the pit.

I would have offered to have sold our set to you, but we appear to be on the same week as you start.

Not quite sure why the lady is referring to me as Chris.... I'll stick to my own name - Alex!

Sweeney I've written out for piano and organ (which I got as a fabulous e-bay bargain) so it should sound quite scary in the confines of a darkened studio space.

Mack and Mabel I am being hoisted into the air on some decking which means I have to get the 2 keyboards, players and two further instrumentalists into about 8 by 4 space! One has these grand ideas but I need to be practical! Where is your Sweeney running? Both my productions are running simultaneously (sometimes life can be busy) but maybe I can come and see you guys on a Tuesday?

We're on in Norwood (north of Croydon) at the beautiful and atmospheric Victorian Stanley Halls, just from 12th November to 15th. I don't think you'll be able to make ours unless you can be in two places at once - which is possible, as the smokers in our company prove when act 2 beginners are called. I'm really enjoying rehearsals. Committee stuff is stressful though (see other threads). And let me know how you manage to get Johanna to get her opening F in the Fogg's Asylum scene.

Now, if you were Chris Lundy, you would have matriculated the year I graduated.

Good luck with being hoisted in Mack and Mabel. I wouldn't want to do that, even with no instrument. How's the balance? I'm worried it's all going to go horribly wrong.

Far too many people to name off the top of my head. Check www.sweeneyiscoming.com for, yes you've guessed it, the Sweeney cast.

Luckily the getting of notes is not my problem for Sweeney. Having got to know the music a little too intimately I don't envy the MDs job (Chris Mundy). I understand it's all going very well though and it's going to be quite gruesome.

"It being only party singed when the chapel burnt down."

LOL! Very clever.

For Mack and mabel, either have a look on facebook. There's a group with the full cast and some further details.

Haven't been on here for a while. Hope I've answered all the questions.

Gutted you're playing the same time. I'm not going to be able to come. It would be great to see another production - tell your cast about the Union one, they maybe interested in seeing it at some point..... or they maybe Sweeneyed out!

Oh Please people should just do there little unpaid shows and stop going on about the as if they where a £5,0000 musical!

I'm seeing Sweeney at the Union on the 12th... rather looking forward to it.

Always interesting to hear how people cope with orchestra sizeI know it's one of the huge (and extremely difficult) ones.

You should really bother to spell properly if you're going to insult people you know - it kind of takes the edge off such biting criticism when you confuse 'there' with 'their' and 'where' with 'were'... rolleyes.gif

Thanks, Dragonfly.

And Jim, if the existance of my local society is dependent on the success or otherwise of the show, and I feel like sharing my feelings about it on here, don't hold it against me.

Thanks for trying, but I'm not on facebook (and don't want to be).

Anyone know of any other source re the Cast of Mack and Mabel, Catford?

(I did try the theatre's website when I first saw this thread - & again just now.)

Definitely should go big! This is such a stunning show, evokes all the emotions - a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Thanks Thom for another great show - the best yet.

Mack and Mabel, is unfortunately a little flawed as a show, but this production has lots of positive aspects.
The cast work hard, and I loved moments of the choreography, especially the tap for "Tap your Troubles away."

The young leads are strong actors, although Gemma Bowden playing Mabel, doesnt have a strong enough vocal for this role, and i wish she had belted more. She needed to connect more with the lyrics especially in "Time heals everything".I sort of got what perhaps the director wanted from her, that the character is empty, but i found her redition slightly souless, and unconnected unlike her acting, which was a real shame. Karl Clarkson as Mack is however a great all rounder. His voice at times sounded slightly tight, but is powerful and lovely to listen too on the whole. His delivery is however focused and totally believable, although perhaps he a little too young for this role. Its his performance that holds the show together, and is the highlight of the evening, real strenght and emotion.I also must give special mention to Lisa Millar and Sean McCreevey who gave good support, as Lotte and Frank, McCreevey is especially natural. Some of the ensemble should take note from these perfromers, as there is a lack of style and period from some cast members, which let the production down.

All in all its a really enjoyable evening though, hope they get good audiences, and good luck to the cast for future work.

Sad news today. We were all set for a two week run with an option to extend for a little longer, finance in place, theatre on side, cast all willing, but today we heard that the rights will not be granted whilst La Cage is still in town. A bit deflating for all concerned, but we have very exciting rumblings which we would like to follow up next year.

Thanks for any interest you have shown and do come down and see it in Catford for now!

Best wishes
