Plenty of seats for this at the Geilgud and you can get a ticket for a tenner if slightly restricted view - it is very good, very challenging, important themes and so well done. You might not like the updating of it- in fact a perfect stranger assailed us in the interval with her disapproval- but I liked it. And it is an example of video stuff on the stage actually having dramatic point. Not one for Granny's afternoon outing, however.

Cheers. I really want to see it but from a good seat and not for much money (i also want the moon!). Have they got to the stage of closing the upper circle yet?
Lynette
yep, they moved people down last night.

Thank you for the information, Lynette. If tickets are available, then I'll certainly buy a couple. This well-reviewed production has been put on for just so many performances, but I'd assumed that tickets would be scarce so hadn't bothered to try to get any.

Top price tickets reduced to £25 on Theatre Monkey's website too. I'm going in a couple of weeks...

i got mine for £16 on last minute rolleyes.gif

im really looking forward to it but perhaps my hopes are too high as I haven’t seen a mind blowing play yet this year …

Why not?

I'd go with incest, paedophillia, sexual abuse, prostitution, gore and jumpy sound effects. But perhaps grannies enjoy that as much as the next person, so who knows? rolleyes.gif

Well, I can't speak/write for all grannies but this one doesn't want to spend the rest of her life with Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. tongue.gif

I meant that about "perhaps grannies enjoy that as much as the next person, so who knows?". Both of my grannies used to go to the theatre together to see just about anything. Similarly I hope that my tastes won't become more conservative as I age. It's really young children who should give this a miss (and there are "ages 16+" notices all over the marketing and at the theatre so there's little worry there)

Just so that you're aware, I'm a regular theatre-goer. I like to think that I have a broad taste, but I saw this a week or two ago, and was possibly the worst theatre experience I've ever had. I think it is because I am not a member of the "press pack", so don't get too excited about media in-jokes. Taking those away from the production, you are left with a piece that tries to explore too many ideas in too little time, and ends up directionless and unfulfilling.

Thanks for the tip off.

I thought the play and the production are amazing.

I now ‘need’ to get hold of a traditional translation to see how this version differs. The production is a shinning example of the excellent use of film and stylised concepts. To me everything works and adds a depth to the narrative and not adding gimmicks or adding to the directors or designers ego.

I can’t believe a production like this is currently playing on Shaftsbury Avenue which normally houses remakes of films staring Pop Idol contestants.

The best play I’ve seen all year and it wasn’t at the NT

Ah, then you must have missed Gentlemen Prefer Blondes starring Michelle McManus at the Queens...

Really looking forward to seeing this (Six Characters) on Monday.

Thought it was a very good show - fascinating story, although it did leave me feeling slightly confused afterwards for a while! Disappointed it wasn't very busy though! Half the stalls were empty, although there were people sat in the circle I believe! Are most perfomances this empty? I went last Tuesday. I wonder whether all the theatres in the West End are this empty? Dont think Rain Man and No Mans Land will be! x

it was very empry when I went as well but people enjoyed it. It is very different from the original text but the intentions are the same and it's an interesting update, especially since the original play hasnt been done that much any more as it feels a biut outdated at times. It did fly off the handle down the end I think and there were a lot of ideas and not enough ermotion to my liking, buit a very interesting play nonetheless.

Bit late in the day (as its closing tomorrow) but just got back from this and wanted to add a note of praise. I know the play reaonably well but was thrilled by the inventive twists and turns in Act 2 as timescales, locations and "characters" came and went. Unlike the original there was even an attempt at a proper ending. In all, I'd put it on a par with the Daldry reinvention of Inspector Calls. Reasonably full house - I guess like me folk were hurrying along before it closed.
