I saw it tueday, but was my first time seeing the show so cant compare to anything/anyone else in the roles.
Martin was fine, bit stiff to begin with but his fantastic self for the show off bit at the end.

Overall dont like the show though, the cast are far better than the material.

In one word the new cast are Hopeless!,Martin Harvey is no Josef Brown and the rest of the cast looked unrehearsed.
The show I dont think is that bad but only as good as the cast and this one is very poor,Cassie Comptons singing was awful!

Cassie Compton has one of the best voices in a long time in my opinion... Looking forward to going down at the end of the month.

Her singing was shocking when I saw the show and your only defending this cast as a "Strallen" is a swing in it!!
The original cast was excellent, this one is pathetic!

I thought Cassie was very good, she was pushing a bit much at times but shes got a lovely rich tone.

Whilst the premise of the show is a bit pathetic I wouldnt say that of the cast. At times in the group dances it seemed that stage was too small and some placements were mixed up but imagine that will sort out in time.

However I understand if you love one cast its strange seeing another, I'm dreading the hairspray changeover as I love the ensemble as much as the leads.

I wasn't definding the cast, I'm defending Cassie Compton as I've heard/seen her live and think she's far from a bad singer. She and Zizi are the only reasons i'm going to see the show.

I have to agree whole heartedly. Cassie was amazing in Les Mis and I cant wait to see her in this. And Zizi oozed talent in Music Man, its not her name that has got her where she is at such a young age - shes earned it. Dirty Dancing as a show hasnt appealed to me before but there are some very good people in this new cast, worth seeing i feel.

I went to see the show last Tuesday not really knowing what to expect. I have to say that although Dirty Dancing is first and foremost a dance show and that I couldn't fault the dancing, it was a shame that a lot of the acting was just plain bad. Martin Harvey is, without a doubt, a very talented dancer but he had none of the charisma that one would expect from Johnny and was extremely wooden, he also had a hard time maintaining an American accent. David Firth's (playing Max Kellerman) biography in the programme was lengthy and impressive yet to see him act in this show you just would not believe that he was a professional actor at all. Penny was a bit wet and had none of the spunky, tough-girl attitude that you see in the film, however on the night that I saw it she was played by understudy Helen Harper so it could have just been down to nerves. Again, I couldn't fault her dancing.
It was just frustrating to see that the producers had obviously favoured dancing finesse over any kind of acting skill at all.

That being said, the four ensemble members who doubled as singers were fantastic, especially Cassie Compton - I can't believe that a previous poster didn't like her! I thought she was the best thing in it! I could have sat and listened to her singing "Do You Love Me?" all night, she's got such an amazing voice.

I saw the new cast last night and have previously seen the show twice before with the old cast and to say i was a little dissapointed is an understatement.

Leanne Rowe and Martin Harvey were very dissapointing and the show is definately lacking for the cast changes. Steven Hartley just doesn't fit in, it's hard to not see him as the Superintendant he played in the Bill.

The show is still great and for people who haven't seen it before they will enjoy it but people who have seen the previous cast will definately be dissapointed in the changes.

I think the new cast are fantastic - and I totally agree that Martin Harvey is a wonderful dancer and actor - and gorgeous! I have seen the new cast twice, and they have really grown into the roles now and have great chemistry and it's such a fun night out!
