On another thread Misplaced made this excellent suggestion:

This makes me thing perhaps we ought to have a thread for board-regulars on "going to X-and-so on such-and-such date / anyone going / PM me if you'd like to meet at the interval"?

I'm now starting a thread for this purpose. Why don't I start us off? I'd love to meet other board regulars that will be going to the matinee of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Globe on Sep 24, A Doll's House at the Kingston Rose for the evening performance Sept 24, and any of the RSC's performances in Stratford Sept 25-27 (don't yet have a ticket for Hamlet on the 26th, but plan to queue for a return).

Okay, I'll bite. biggrin.gif

I'm planning on spending the entirety of 3rd December at the National, with 'August: Osage County' in the afternoon and 'War Horse' in the evening. If anyone else is at one or both of these shows (or even just wandering the south bank) and fancies meeting for a light meal in between (probably the Circle Cafe between the two floors of the Olivier), lemme know. happy.gif

Well, if we're looking that far ahead I have some more on my list:

Nov 12 matinee - Ivanov, Donmar at Wyndhams
Nov 12 evening - The White Devil at the Menier Chocolate Factory

Nov 13 matinee - Love's Labour's Lost at the Kingston Rose
Nov 13 evening - Oedious at the NT

Nov 14 evening - Love's Labour's Lost, RSC Stratford
Nov 15 evening - Hamlet, RSC Stratford (last performance)

Just wanted to point out that there will be a semi-official outing for WOS regulars February 28 for the matinee of Mrs Affleck at the NT, as announced on another thread, if any other lone theatre goer is looking to meet up with like minded people.

How interesting seeing LLL twice in two days - I suppose seeing Mr Tennant is a must - I have missed this cos couldn't match myself up with the available dates - so let us know how they compare. I must say, Jenny I admire your stamina. It's a nice play but ...
wickedgrin
I enjoy going to the theatre on my own as I have stated in another thread. Although it would be fun to actually put a face to some of the names on this board and to meet some like minded theatre enthusiasts I am rather shy....so perhaps I'll give it a miss, but a great idea.

I think this is a brilliant idea. Would it be possible to make this thread a 'sticky' and then we could easily check if others were going to the same performance? rolleyes.gif
Jenny_tyr
It is possible to pin it to the top of the forum, but I'm not sure if that's a good long term solution. I'll do it for now, but we may "unpin" it later.

Thinking about this, the thread will soon get unreadable with dates and performances all over the place.

What would the reaction be to having three threads entitled This Week, Next Week and Week 3? One of us mods could delete the This Week messages over each weekend and move the Next Week and Week 3 messages up one, leaving a new blank Week 3 thread. This would keep it immediate and current.

I was thinking monthly ones. If we have threads for October, November, December, etc, then that'll limit the amounts of posts in a thread. And if people ONLY post "seeing this play on this day", none of this "hoho, I'm not doing this!" spam, then it should be far easier to deal. smile.gif
Misplaced
Will be at Zorro on Monday, September 29, if any regulars are there.

(Needless to say, that should be "this makes me thinK" rather than "this makes me thinG" ... sigh.)

Re: I like the thoughts on Monthly or Weekly posted above, though it will increase work on the mods. Y'all ok with that?
Jenny_tyr
No problem. I think the monthly idea is probably a good one to start with.
Laughingmonsta
Was also having similar thoughts but i think people should only be allowed to post shows and dates in a month by month section and people can then check them - if they match and want to meet up with others they can do it over PM
Misplaced
Anyone going to The Last Five Years on 12 October? I'll be there with a mate but definitely in the Dress Circle bar in the interval.
Laughingmonsta
Ill be there misplaced - with a mate also prob staying in seat eating strawberry ice cream in the interval lol
SimplyTheatre
I have a week Holiday from 3rd of November, so if anyone is planning to go to theatre this week, i would be glad to go with.

I've only just read this thread -
I'd thought it was the thread which turned into the February Outing thread,
& I don't normally pre-book Shows which are hundreds of miles away for the bleak midwinter.

However (in theory at least) my initial thoughts are that I do like the idea of having a thread for theatregoing for Each Month
(Each Week I think would be too much, & too short notice for advance transport ticket savings).

I often go to the theatre alone - but I might not be comfortable making arrangements on a public forum to meet semi-strangers.

(However, some posters here seem like pals, after all this time.)

This seems to have advantages -
eg being able to make arrangements in private, by PM (time, place, how to identify each other, etc) -
away from the 'public domain'.

But that confidentiality could also have disadvantages.

One such disadvantage would be that if only the original poster is mentioned in the thread,
the rest of us Undecideds
wouldn't know whether perhaps our favourite (or least favourite!) poster was also going to that performance!

That disadvantage could be removed if all people hoping to attend do post in the thread -
even though the detail of their meet-up arrangements is kept private by PM.
