<sarcasm> Well, thank goodness some kind soul is looking after those needy people.</sarcasm>

you know what, I don't care if people think that's a publicity gimmick. I think it's a genuine thing to do and praise Lord Webber for using positive publicity.

Lost your £200,000 pa job at Lehman's? Have 2 free tickets for Joseph.
Lost your luggage at Terminal 5? Here's 4 free tickets for Joseph.
Lost your marbles? Tonight's star prize: 100 free tickets for Joseph.

The unemployment figures have just reached about 1.8M. Why is the noble Lord only offering a cheery night out to the bankers?

I gotta say, that's a nice thing he's done and its random acts of kindness like this that put smiles on peoples faces.

Absolutely. We should be sorry for the unemployed city bankers. Even when they were working some of these people had to struggle to make ends meet on a paltry £100k a year. Trainees had it even worse, scraping a living - if you can call it that - on a pittance of £30k to £35k. They've suffered terribly in the current economic crisis, and the fact that the crisis is partly of their own making shouldn't blind us to their misery. And we certainly shouldn't laugh. Oh no.

(Where the hell was Lloyd Webber when I was out of work? He was willing enough to take my money then - no discount for the unemployed from him. And now he calls it generosity to give tickets away to people who were in the uppermost couple of percent of wage earners. What next? Food parcels for the royal family?)

laugh.gif Nice, Matt!

Of course the illegals who now don't have a cleaning job in Canary Wharf for £1.50ph won't have the necessary paperwork to qualify for ALW's selfless not-so-random act of not-such-kindness.

I didn't think Joseph needed any more publicity. He certainly finds novel ways of creating it.

I must admit I'm torn by this one.
On one hand at least he is offering some kind of kindness, on the other as Mr Winn said, London bankers hardly need charity.
To me this has the distinct smell of underhanded marketing, act like a benevolent theatre overlord and draw the masses to your playhouses.

I dunno, maybe I'm just getting cynical but this does not sit right with me.

You're not the only one who's cynical about this - I certainly am

Unfortunately unemployed actors are not all over the media at the moment. ALW is essentially capitalising on other people's suffering. He is using the 'credit crunch' as a marketing tool, he does not actually give a monkey's about the people, just publicity. It's not like London bankers need his charity is it?
This is of course my own personal opinion but I have a feeling that I'm right for once.
