Hello!

I'm doing the panto in Stockport this year and am looking for gigs for December / January. Does anyone know of good digs in that area? Cheers, Rob

Are the theatre not able to provide you with a digs list?

They are, but they're not always very extensive. In my expereince, it's always a good idea to ask around and see if anyone has other suggestions.

When I asked for a digs list for a couple of student who would be appearing in panto in Newport, I received a list of hotels which included the Celtic Manor and the Hilton.
Do these "regional theatre people" not understand that the wages for panto ensemble are not particularly brilliant? In fact the nightly rate at the Celtic Manor was about the same as the weekly wage for panto!!
I eventually found digs by looking on Google for student accomodation - usually empty during the Christmas vacation.
Good luck with the hunt.

I know this is really after the fact but I have just joined the forum. Equity has digs list for members in their website and there is also a list published in Contacts.

I think there's a facebook group for actors and musicians looking for places to stay.

The reason accommodation lists from theatres include 5* hotels is that they only produce one list which they can dish out to all, whatever their means. Quite often the posh hotels have special rates for theatre people so even if it says £230 per night you might be able to get for, I dunno, £80. Might be useful if your Mum and Dad, or that rich bachelor uncle says they want to come and see your show.
