Sarah Miles who got a Oscar nomination for Ryan's Daughter and was in the amazing Great Expectations is returning to the stage for the first time in years n Lisa Kron's Tony nominated Broadway play WELL at Trafalgar Studios 2 for all of September...
Natalie Casey is also in the show.
I remember this production from back in 2006 on Broadway... apparently its hilarious and moving...critically it done well, commercially it did okay...

Don't get too excited. Sarah Miles was always a good cinema actress but I have seen her on stage twice & been far from impressed. One was a strange play called World War 2 1/2 in 1967 & the other a Chichester Festival production of Robert Bolt's Vivat Vivat Regina in which Sarah Miles played Mary Queen of Scots to Eileen Atkins' Elizabeth 1. Atkins, needless to say, acted her off the stage.

Hmm... but the space at Trafalgar Studios is far more intimate, which may suit her better.
Looking forward to this.

Going to do a little but more research on this one before I say anything much on it, just thought I'd let everyone know I thought jcasjc's post said
Nataile Cassidy would be in it rather than Natalie Casey...that was a bit of a shock

How do you know she doesn't like musicals? Although I agree it will be good to see her doing something a bit different.

I saw this play on Broadway a few years ago. I really really enjoyed it. I didn't think I would because it's all about a woman and her mother and me being a 27 year old man I thought I might not "get" it. I think riveting is the only way to describe it.
I remember it did really well critically, lots of awards and things... and commercially it did okay.
Very surprised to see it turn up in London though. I'll be intrigued to see how they use the character of Lisa seeing as on Broadway Lisa was played by, err, Lisa!
Very intrigued to see how this comes across in London... it was fantastic on Broadway. The cast look quite nifty too... Thomas Morrison and Hannah Stokely are fantastic, not really seen much of Natalie Casey and of course everyone my age and older knows Sarah Miles!

Saw it tonight - WOW!
Love the space at trafalgar 2, its fantastic.
natalie Casey - what a revelation. I didn't really know her but she was stunning, totally unexpected and so heartfelt. I came to see Sarah Miles and she still has it in abundance. The chemistry between those 2 were fantastic. The audience loved it, I loved it. Very funny. This was only the first preview I think so I hope to go back sometime soon.

Thanks

A very witty and intimate play - Studio 2 was the perfect venue. But why didn't they advertise more widely? I saw it on Saturday evening when the auditorium was less than half full. Sarah Miles is still a draw and Natalie Casey (who was superb) has great contemporary clout, yet the first I heard about this play was via a rumour on this site. When I telephoned the theatre in late August they weren't even able to confirm the staging. Surely Trafalgar have resorces enough to advertise in the Sunday broadsheets, especially given the proven talent they have been showcasing over the last couple of years?

I totally agree - TS just haven't bothered to do any marketing. I'd quite like to have seen it, but only found out last week, and so now won't be going.

Advertising in Studio 2 isn't really down to the Trafalgar Studios as it works more like a receiving house. Advertising is down to the producers of individual shows.

I would really like to see this, although i love the atmosphere of small studio spaces after seeing several shows in Trafalger 2, think they need to rethink the seating or the maximum capacity for someone who is 6ft5 like me its a bit hard and cramed for my liking!

Tall people should go for the front row or the back row in the corner.
Picked up a ticket on tkts for a saturday mat and loved the performances but wasnt totally sold on the play.
Nathalie did an amazing job as did the woman who played the childhood taunter. It was a shame it was half empty,
side seats were not even onsale online.

ALL tall people should sit on the back row. Or special seats set a foot lower than everyone else's!

Agreed. Shame about the lack of audience numbers but I saw this on Wednesday night and really enjoyed the play and performances.
Not sure about others but I have seen this advertised around and about a bit.

Went with a fwe friends from LAMDA yesterday. I wasn't sure what to expect - I didn't know who Sarah Miles was and I recognised the name Natalie Casey but never seen any of her work but she was out of this world. I expected some sort of TV "star" performance but she was hilarious and touching. Sarah Miles was loveable but I was just blown away by Natalie.
I'm still thinking about the play - it's one of those... but I would recommend if people have the chance to go see it. I'd never been to Studio 2 but it's a great little space. Will go and see Sh*t-Mix after it too.

I went to this Saturday night, the last performance. Was fantastic, and like Haz says above - great to see Studio 2 packed. Waiting in the foyer before the show it seemed like more people were there to see Well than to see Riflemind but that surely can't be the case. In any case - it was a fantastic show. Miles and Casey were superb!

Not sure - I hear Riflemind has really suffered after their less than flattering reviews so not sure how long it's going to last. Criminal really, considering the calibre of the people involved.
Hope Well goes on to have life elsewhere. Really did enjoy it.

Sorry. We just didnt get this and I think anyone who did is suffering from "Emperor's New Clothes" scenario.
Whilst the two lead actresses acted very well, the whole play was devoid of meaning and a plot or topic of any substance.
It was charectarised by the fact that the play had no interval presumably because had it done so, very few of the watching audience would have returned for the second half.
A complete waste of an evening and money
