Does anyone know what Antony Sher is doing these days? Future plans? He seems to have dropped off the face on the earth!

He had his last play produced at the Hampstead late last year and he's currently in the film Three and Out - apart from that I haven't a clue!

He is playing Prospero in Cape Town and at the RSC in the opening months of 2009.

I heard he's playing Iago too. Again. (In Stratford, 2009).

Anyone know any more about this? The only officially announced RSC 2009 work is the London season and a touring Othello.
Any info about Sher in The Tempest would be much appreciated.

The Tempest will play at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford from Feb 14 to March 14, after first playing in Cape Town. Sher is confirmed as Prospero, and John Kani will be playing Caliban.

Oh
shame I really don't like The Tempest as a play.
When I was preparing to direct Richard III, I read and re-read The Year of the King countless times
the Greg and Tony show were guest speakers at this year's OUDS dinner (Oxford Uni Drama Society) and by all accounts were well-received.
I guess we are a few years off the Doran/Sher Lear - but maybe not that many

He's going to be in God on Trial on BBC 2 in September. It's about the Jews in Auschwitz who decide to put 'god on trail' while waiting to be gassed.

Danish, do you know what date in September this is being broadcast please? I had heard August, but there's no sign of it.

It's just been added to the BBC program guide, airing 9pm on Wed Sep 3rd on BBC 2.

I believe I read online that he will be milling around Stratford at the end of August for the RSC Open Day. The closer the day comes, the more excited I get. :3

He does a session at 4:45pm, "An Actor's Perspective" and he also takes part at the Great Shakespeare Quiz, towards the end of the day. It should be fun

Sir Antony does seem to have been lower profile in Stratford in recent years but having spent so many years within and then leading the company there would only be certain roles which might tempt him and depending when they are done in repotoire etc. His Lear would be well worth seeing and as he is 60 next year it cannot be that far away although he perhaps looks younger than other actors who have played this role given that his hair is still darker. As Sir Ian did the role last year then it would be perhaps 2012 or so before it went back into repotoire but no doubt that Greg would have good roles in mind although given their personal relationship they may well prefer to work with other actors/directors as their views would be totally unbiased.
Of course Sir Antony also has his TV work, film work, writing, painting etc so he remains as busy as ever.

The whole thing was fantastic. It would make a very good stage play - I wonder if anyone will take it up? Of course you could never hope to replicate the cast but with a good ensemble company it would still work because the writing is so strong.
