couldnt agree more, she seems to have been understudy forever. She totally deserves the role outright!

what sort of state is chicago in at the moment?
i've never seen it on stage and feel i really should at some point!

Call me Mr Cynical if you like, but given that the London production of Chicago has a worldwide reputation for stunt casting second to none it seems to me that there's more prestige in being first cover for Roxie Hart than in being given the role full time. The covers get their positions as a result of their abilities. With the leads it's sometimes all too clear that talent was never a consideration. (That's not always the case, obviously, but I've seen some stunt-cast leads who would never have even made it into the ensemble had they not had thousands of fans with thousands of pounds.)

I've a lot of respect for covers. Any idiot can play a single role (and many do), but learning multiple roles and turning up for work each day not knowing which one you'll be playing takes real talent. Someone I know once told me that as a swing he didn't mind whether he went on or stayed off; the thing that really bugged him was not knowing which he'd be doing until shortly before the show.

I have to disagree about more perstige in being a cover and the principle of not been stunt casted and all that but at the end of the day,its whats in the pay packet that counts and sure the leads earn loads more.
Cameron I am sure would jump at the chance of having her name on the poster in big letters and people do have ambition and dont want to be the bridesmaid forever!

So is Cameron still a Swing if so how much longer is she in the show. As i said in the Musical section she should have been given Roxie
Niall
Unfortunatly Chicago very rarely give the roles to understudies, unlike perhaps Guys and Dolls/Wicked. Its such a pity because talented performers like Cameron Leigh dont get a chance to play the leads! A good example is Vanessa Leagh Hicks - a gifted performer - she was in the show nearly 9 years and the producers only gave her a two week stint as velma after she left!! She was fab during the two weeks tough!! smile.gif

In reply to your comments about being a cover rather than a full time lead for example 'it's all too clear that talent was never a consideration' I would just like to list some names of the performers who have played Roxie as a full time role:

Aoife Mulholland
Bonnie Langford
Ruthie Henshall
Josefina Gabrielle (currently playing and getting fantastic comments from people around me every time I have been to watch)

All of whom have had years experience on the stage and are certainly not considered a case of - in my opinion of course! - stunt casting.

Saying this though, I do agree that it takes a huge amount of talent and versatility to learn a full time role plus a cover role. Also you mention the london production in particular using stunt performers but can I also just mention some names from the Broadway production:

Richard Gere
Melanie Griffith
Usher
George Hamilton
Kevin Richardson
Brian McKnight
Brooke Sheilds
Tori Spelling............

Would you like me to go on?........

I reali wish that I cud see her with the new cast... as much as I love Josefina, seeing Cameron with the new cast would just be a COMPLETE new cast that I've seen for quite some time! (apart from Clarke)
