I saw on a website that Julie Atherton is doing a workshop of a new musical called "Through the Door" - does anyone know much about it? Who else is in it, etc?

Yes, it's by Judy Freed, an American writer, and Laurence Mark Wythe who wrote Tomorrow Morning. There is a workshop this month with Julie Atherton and Simon Gleeson. Not sure who the 3rd lead is going to be yet. They did some songs at the Royal Academy earlier this year, it's very good by the sound of things. Don't know much about the story though.

Julie and Simon??? Wow!

Can people see this workshops or closed to general public?

This is exciting. I have heard one song, very good. Loved Julie A. in Avenue Q. Great combination of writing and acting/singing talent.

Julie is also appearing in A Spoonful of Stiles and Drewe at Her Majestys Theatre on July 6th. And over the summer, she will be at the Playhouse Theatre in Liverpool performing in Once Upon A Time At The Adelphi - see link below...

The third lead is Mark McGee, so it's him and Julie Atherton and Simon Gleeson.

Is the workshop open to members of the general public does anybody know?

Yes, I think it is but best to check with the theatre or Andy Barnes Productions/Perfect Pitch, the producer.

Sorry, the theatre is the Hazlitt in Maidstone, not very local really if you're in London - or anywhere except Maidstone!

Wow! Do we know WHEN?

I can't see any mention of it on the Theatre's website -
though I see they are workshopping 'Tickledom', which was featured at the last Perfect Pitch Festival of new British Musicals -
thanks for supporting new musicals, Hazlitt Arts Centre, Maidstone!

Couldn't make it unfortunately, gutted! Cast sounded amazing and if the show is half as good as Tomorrow Morning it will be one to watch out for.

Is there any way of hearing it somewhere?

I agree - I really want to know if anyone is producing this show, and if they are whether the same cast will stay with it. Let's hope they don't just do it in America now like is happening with tomorrow morning.

It might - the bookwriter is an American, the composer/lyricist is British. Tomorrow Morning is probably doing well in America because there is more of an appetite for new musicals regionally, which is non-existent here, practically. And after not happening in the West End like was supposed to happen last year, and doesn't seem to be happening yet, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they took Through The Door straight to America. Maybe there will be a small production in London somewhere first, it'd be great to see this show, it sounds like it might be one to look out for.

"Tomorrow Morning" is being cast at the moment for a Chicago production that opens in November, according to Equity it is at Victory Gardens. Does anybody know if "Through the Door" will come to America?
AEWAG
Julie will be appearing in the UK premiere of Ordinary Days in November at the Finborough theatre.
She is also taking part in a one off concert of the composers work on November 1st at St Pauls Knightsbridge. Tickets £12 at http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/user/?region=xx...p;promoter=joab

Thank goodness for iPlayer! I'll be out all day. biggrin.gif yay for Julieness! I love interviews with her, she comes across well. I love her passion for new musicals, and she's just really cute!! laugh.gif
-sarah-
Yay for the Julie love! There's an interview I did with her in the summer edition of The Drama Student Magazine, it's well worth a read - she's so ridiculously lovely, and she gives some great insights and advice.

Julie is always so nice. I met her recently after seeing Avenue Q, she was so friendly

cat123
She's so shy, bless her. She doesn't know how good she is. happy.gif

I like it when actors are talented yet shy. It's more enjoyable to watch someone perform when you know they're not big headed
RH1234
How long is she staying in Avenue Q???
cat123
At the moment the show is due to close on september 26th. If it extends, who knows... Julie might decide to leave then anyway.

I was under the impression that the cast were contracted until December - subject to the show running, of course. Daniel mentioned being in the show for "another six months" recently, but then again that could be counting from the closure at the Noel Coward.
cat123
It's only booking until the end of september at the moment. I love the show a lot, but I really don't know if I want it to extend....

I know, but cast contracts don't necessarily have anything to do with the booking period. For example La Cage aux Folles was originally advertised as a strictly limited twelve week season from October 2008 and was only booking to January 2009, yet the majority of the cast were contracted until September, subject to the show running (which it has, so far).

That said, I have no idea whether what I heard about the Avenue Q cast being contracted until December is true; I'm just saying that the fact that it's only booking to September doesn't mean that that's when the cast are contracted to.

Does anyody know what would happen to the puppets if the show closed? There's no particular reason why I ask, I'm just interested.

If they're not perishable they'll almost certainly go into storage with the rest of the show until someone wants to do another production of Avenue Q. If they're likely to rot or degrade then they might be sold off to members of the company, or just thrown out.
-sarah-
I wonder if she'll be extending with Avenue Q? I know she loves the show, but maybe she'll want to do something new?
cat123
Whatever she decides, I hope I find out in time to buy a decent ticket for her last show. I'm not missing that for anything!! <3
-sarah-
I think her last day is going to be October 3rd. Sadly I don't think I can make it, but as I have tickets for A Little Less Ordinary and Through The Door I think I'll cope!
cat123
I booked front row, I'm very excited!! Now trying to off load the ticket I have for the week before as I don't think I'll be able to get 2 saturdays in a row off work. It's times like this I wish I had a 9-5 monday-friday job!
Mathew
I've just booked a front row ticket too - I love Avenue Q and that's not one I wanted to miss!
cat123
I love how many people I know are in front row. Julie's gonna know she's loved!! I shall be cheering/laughing/crying in all the appropriate places!!! I'm quite excited already. though I'll be going back at least twice before then!!!
maddy
I'd love to be at the final performance of Julie in AVENUE Q... but I can't angry.gif

Here you can find an interview with Julie in the Spanish site todoMUSICALES:

Julie is amazing....I saw her in the show on Monday. Her accent and singing reminded me of Kristin Chenoweth, am I the only one who thinks this?

I share your love for her cat123 she is a brilliant performer! I must try and catch Avenue Q before she leaves which is getting ever closer!
cat123
You really should. I've not yet worked out whether I like her voice or not, which is a strange thing to say considering how much I love her, though no doubt she can sing! But her acting is just brilliant, so sincere and emotional for the sad numbers but she also has brilliant comic timing when needed as well! I'm gonna miss her in Avenue Q, but I'm not worried about her vanishing into obscurity, she's too good. smile.gif
