I have just discovered that there may be a family connection to soprano Cynthia Glover through my husband's family.

I'm ashamed to admit that I know nothing about her and have tried to track down info through Wiki, Google etc to no avail, apart from a few CD listings.

There is an audio track on youtube which at least gives me a taste of her voice ( unsure.gif hmm...is that possible..?!) but I would be very interested in knowing more about her.

If anyone can help with biographical details I'd be extremely grateful. It would help me to establish if there is a connection but I would also just like to find out more about her - I love the little I have heard and will certainly be buying some recordings.

Hello there!
I was looking through Google to see if I also could find out anything about Cynthia Glover as I have recently discovered an old record of mine in which she features with someone called John Laurenson after a clear out of the loft at my father's house. It's an old Music for Pleasure album called My own Nursery Rhyme Record which my late mother had bought for me when I was a child in the late 60's. Needless to say, I played it (yes, I still have a record player!!) as soon as I got it home. I instantly remembered all the tunes and Ms. Glover's fantastic voice and wanted to know more about her1.
Cheers, Victor

Hi, I heard Cynthia Glover sing at a concert with a male voice choir in Bristol some years ago, as far as i know she lives in the bristol area and is involved with the musical societies there. Her daughter Helen was singing duets with her on the same programme . Cynthia sang for years on Friday night is music night on radio 2 and let me say as a professional singer and singing teacher that she always sang with the most lovely vocal quality. Her recordings are mainly of operetta lionel monkton's The Arcadians being particularly good. John lawrenson the delightful baritone also appeared on those radio 2 broadcasts as did the charming variety star Joan Savage. The singing of this trio brightened Friday evenings for many people. Regards, Andrew

Cyntha Glover was married to a teacher at my old school, Fairfield Grammar School in Bristol. He taught English and was called J Lloyd. I imagine that the J was John but teachers christian names were forbidden territory in the 1960s! I recall that in 1967 or 1968 she sang in the school concert at the Colston Hall. Sorry it is not much, but I hope that this little background info will be helpful.

Just came upon an old Vinyl LP of John Lawrenson and Cynthia Glover called Stars of Friday Night. It`s on Contour Records, no2870 346. It is very pleasant listening and was issued in 1973.Sleeve notes are fairly comprehensive.

I remembr Cynthia Glover from 1974. I was working in Torquay at the time and I recall the posters in the town advertising her concert.

Apart from that I dont think I have ever come across her again.

my husband's father was John Lloyd. i believe John moved to Bristol after his marriage to my husband's mother failed.
