Very sad to read that Pavarotti has pancreatic cancer.

The 70-year-old Italian tenor is "recovering well", she said - but all remaining 2006 dates of his farewell tour have been cancelled......It is hoped the tenor will be able to resume his tour in early 2007."

While obviously I have huge sympathy for him I do wish Pavarotti would stop singing. His voice is a pale shadow of what it used to be in his glory days. I heard him a couple of times when I was teenager and for me his voice remains the most beautiful since Bjorling but he should have stopped years ago.

Perhaps, I havent heard him since Tosca at the ROH when he performed before flying back to Italy because of the death of his mother and cancelling the rest of the run.

I certainly enjoyed that performance, and it was good of him to perform at all that day. The audience certainly appreciated it.
