Has anyone caught any of this US series yet (admittedly it's not on in the UK until early 2010, E4 are showing it), it's brilliant though, very funny show about a school 'Glee' club, this is where they go to sing and dance after school and to represent the school in national competitions, think the whole college 'Glee' thing is big in the US.

In each show they do about 4 numbers and they are brilliant, mixture of pop and musical classics, the lead singer is Lea Michele who starred in Spring Awakening both on and off Broadway and the teacher appeared in Footloose amongst other shows on Broadway.

You must check it out, best series I have seen in ages, well written and a lot of fun.

PS Lea really should take the Elphaba role if they do film Wicked, she has an amazing voice and sings Defying Gravity in the tv show.

I do like it quite a lot, although I wish the musical numbers were a bit 'liver'. That's good news that it's going to be on E4! I love both Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison, it's good to see theatre people doing well in TV land, especially in such a theatrical TV show...
Jessie
Love it, but the voices really are overproduced (if that's the right word?) but still love it!

Yeah the songs are obviously done to sell the various albums they are releasing to accompany the series * so the better they sound the more CD's they sell I suppose but I agree, there are a few that sound more live and less produced.

* Once the series is finished there will have been 3 Glee albums with a total of about 75 songs, I have the first one and it's brilliant.

The pilot will be on E4 in mid-December as a teaser for the series which they will start running in January

The overproducing of Finn's voice is the worst, he might not be a great singer, but I'd rather have that than him singing like a robot!

I love this series, can't wait for it on E4! smile.gif

yeah that is a strange one as he's not a great singer and there are better male voices in the show, he also is not a natural dancer, you would think they could have found someone better !!

Ps Sue is the BEST character ever :-)

I love the whole thing... it's so cute but so touching at times too! The guy playing Finn... even though he's not the best singer or dancer, he's kinda cute and he suits reali well with the character! As for Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison goes... they've been amazing so far! And agree that Jane Lynch's Sue totally stole the show! Very touching moments when we realise in one of the more recent episodes about her sister!
It's just a cute, warm little show that have amazing vocals and dancer numbers (Mercy & Back to Rehab was amazing!) ... MUCH better than what E4 made with Mitch Hewer with Gary Barlow writing score ~~~

Glee is one of my faves at the moment - always look forward to hearing what songs they'll sing each week biggrin.gif

hahaha... Yes, spendleb, SUE is frickin hillarious!!! And Emma is loveeeely! And Matthew Morrision is hot- but if he were my techer and he started rapping all the time i'd be very embarrased!

Such a great show. Its actually very very well written.... and its HUGE in the US so hopefully a good few seasons left.

Woohoo for Glee!

She sings a neutered pop version of the song that has the life autotuned out of it. Proof right there that anyone should be Elphaba!

Yeah but Lea has proved what an amazing voice she has already, check out Spring Awakening for a start.

Hi Everyone! I'm from the state of Iowa in the US....I'm a retired public school teacher who has worked with young people in talent shows/variety shows/musicals/dramas/etc. This show GLEE is far and away my favorite show! Just so you are prepared...this show breaks all the rules writing-wise=production-wise-etc...It is not like anything we have seen before...so if you try to say, "It is like this show or that show"....it will not work..It is new and unique....Some people who are critical by nature get frustrated with the show because it is not following the "rules" as they have come to understand them...I think it is hilarious one minute and out of nowhere you are all misty eyed and left with very good feelings...and then something will really tick you off...then you arfe back to tears again...etc. I hope many of you enjoy the show as much as I do..It is the one and only show I make a point to see every week!

Last episode til April this week! I guess E4 will catch up with it by then and we'll get new eps at the same time as the US.

Can't believe this, typical of US programming, no wonder so many shows get cancelled too early as they must lose viewers with these breaks? Wonder if we will get the Vol 2 soundtrack released or have to wait until it returns sad.gif

I am annoyed with this too, and it is all because of that stupid show American Idol! which is on practically every night on Fox once it starts! I would much rather have Glee, than that Reality show that has been on 10 years
flying_free
Except it's not American Idol's fault. They film the first 13 episodes, Fox look at the viewing figures and if they're pulling enough in then they order the back 9 episodes. They haven't been filmed yet so they actually have no choice but to take a break. I agree it's all very silly though.
Jessie
I loved the last episode! Can't wait for it to start again.
Also, on the adverts on E4, the sound is weird, their voices are all higher...

Really enjoyed this on e4 last night; what fun! Can't wait until Jan to see the rest.

Having read up a bit about it all, interesting to find out that the pilot was aired in the US following the American Idol final; that the big number was "Don't stop believing"; which Joe from X Factor sang; that he won; that Cowell hopes him to be "the next Zak Effron"...you can almost hear the Cowell/Fox brain cogs working.

I'm expecting a cute new kid from England (who's NOT gay rolleyes.gif )to enrol at William McKinley High in an upcoming series.

I thought the pilot was really good and I can't wait until 2010 to see more of it. Lea Michele looks so like Idina Menzel at times! I sort of wish that my school had a Glee club now sad.gif
Geoff
I did know that they hadn't filmed them yet, but I think if American Idol wasn't on almost every night, they might have sped up the production process. Fox ordered the new episodes in September.

I don't see how American Idol being on TV had anything to do with the production process of Glee. But by the point the back nine episodes were commissioned I'm sure the cast already had other commitments anyway, so they couldn't commence filming immediately. For example, Jane Lynch was contracted to appear in Love, Loss And What I Wore on Broadway from October 21st to November 15th.

Also, the Glee kids took part in various signings across the US from November 2nd to November 7th. The first of these signings featured all the main kids, however the other ones did not feature them all as some had prior commitments.

In addition, it's very rare that a 22 episode TV show films all 22 episodes back to back. Usually the first batch are filmed, then there is a break before picking up the final episodes. I can imagine this will be the case even more with Glee considering the extensive time it takes to film in addition to acquiring the rights to each song (which is only done after the episode is written), rearranging and recording the songs, and choreographing the numbers. This will take even longer with the back nine as the number of songs per episode is increasing from five to six up to eight to ten.

I would also imagine that the back nine episodes, whilst they probably had plot outlines, were not written until they were picked up in September. They would have to allow time for the episodes to be written before the production process can begin. (Though hypothetically even if all of the episodes were written, they would not have been allowed to continue with any other part of the production process until the green light was given to the back nine, as there was no contract to produce episodes, therefore no staff.) The production process with regards to the musical numbers alone begins six to eight weeks before each episode is filmed.

So to be completely honest I doubt American Idol had anything to do with it.

I absolutly love this show! I didnt realise how good of a voice Lea Michelle had until i heard her sing some of the other songs. I've seen all 13 episodes and cant wait to see the rest!!!! Shes always reminded me a bit of Idina Menzel looks wise, even when she was in Spring Awakening, and still does in some episodes!!!
Love Jane Lynch as Sue and Chris Colfer and Kurt!!

Cause a film version of the show would be live?? Personally i think she would be well cast as a 'Hollywood' Elphaba, she has the 'look', likeability and is a great actress *on and off stage may i add*.
As for the series, i've seen quite a lot of it as it was shown in Aus earlier in the year too, it gets better and better... xx
