What do people think of the new season?

Opera wise it feels a bit dull. I guess so many resources are getting taken up for their ghastly ring. And then when that’s over we are given more Wagner, with Parsifal. Why are they programmed so close together? Both the Ring and Parsifal have fantastic singers but vile staging. Wouldn’t it be great to have a great production with great singers at the ROH?

Looking fwd to the new Rake & Iphigenia. Can’t wait for Powder her face – I wonder who they will cast?

Also can’t wait for the revivals of Cenertola and Onegin

The ballet season is looking much better

It will be great to see Chroma and Spring back. Different Drummer sounds great. It will be a very bloody triple bill.

Also Le Patineurs will twin (I guess) fantastically with Beatrix Potter – Great Crimbo marketing. But why is it on for such a short space of time. I’ve waited a long time to see BP

Couldn't agree more about the really appalling Ring. It is a disgrace that it has got so far and now is being regurgitated. The Parsifal from memory wasn't much better either. What is it about Wagner that brings out the worst in 'directors'.

Agree the 2007/2008 season looks a little dulll. The Salome and the Don Carlo could be interesting, but oh how one missses the excitement of the Solti years.

You presumably didn't have to sit through the ENO one, then Interesting point - Most of the truly mind bogglingly bad productions I have suffered through were of Wagner operas. Conversely some of the most transfigurative experiences have also been related to Wagner. I must say I never expected the "Parsifal" to be revived. It is far worse than the Ring production. the "highlight" was the portrayal of the Grail as something which looked like a bit of coal or possibly an old turd...All things considered the season does look rather dull

I have searched in vain for the ROH Website giving details of the 2007/8 season. What am I doing wrong? I am particularly interested in the dates for 'Parsifal'.

The link is far from clear. It's somewhere in the press area. I found it by googling royal Opera House 2007-8 season...

I think they're meant to be redeveloping it fairly soon...

Only the booking part of the site. According to the Friends newsletter, they are introducing pick-you-own seat booking next month.

That should be good! I'm surprised they have never done this before, it is such a good way of booking .



I don't know if anyone else is a fan of Angela Gheorghiu, but i'm a little surprised to see she isn't due to be performing in any operas in the 2007/8 season. I did notice there was a gap for the casting for Tosca though, but i'm not sure she would return to do this.

I was rather hoping that she would be in the ROH production of L'elsir D'amore, still i'm really looking forward to seeing that!

Anna Netrebko should be great in La Traviata, at last the ROH have asked her to perform as Violetta!
