Did anyone else get a spam message through the private message function last night, from 'Catherine'? (0 posts, registered today at 12.37am / message sent Today 12.53am)
I'm guessing this isn't encouraged/allowed. Before I just delete, do I need to forward/report it to a moderator for their information?
Thanks

Hi
Obviously this not something that the mods have control over, but this does seem to have been a widespread PM. The contents (which I didn't see) have gone. The matter has been referred to admin and action is being taken as I type which will hopefully prevent "Catherine" from participating on the board in the future. There is now no need to block this member as the profile is being deleted (not something within the mods power).
However spam, and new ways of delivering it, is a prevalent and increasing problem on all forums, not just WoS.

I'll go ahead and delete the message now...I just didn't want to delete it straight away if moderators/admin (who ever has 'deletion' rights) needed information from it first.
I realise that spam is an issue, but also realise that moderators/admin need to be aware of it before they can do something about it - hence this post as I wasn't sure who to contact.
Thanks to moderators/admin for all their hard work

Hi all,
As you some of you know, users were sent spam via a pm from "Catherine" last night. We have removed this message and have taken steps to ensure it is unlikely to happen again.
We have stepped up the site security further and hope this will not inconvenience you at all.
Many thanks to you all for bringing this to our attention and helping us crack down on this kind of spam attack.
Please let us know if anything of this nature happens again.
Kind regards,

Me too. Is it easy then to quickly send a message to all forum members?

Hello,
same thing for me apparently...
I can't remember how to find my private messages, but if it was a spam this doesn't matter any longer.
May be useful thow if the future, so can someone refresh my memory, please ?

Same problem here. Have the admins disabled the message / inbox feature?

Admin has restricted the PM function to prevent this happening in the future, so anyone that has fewer than 20 posts under their belt can no longer use the PM system, this might be why some of you can no longer access the system. For everyone else it should be up and running as normal.

I got that too, as the user must have been deleted by the time I tried to read the message.
Glad it's all sorted now!
