Anyone have any ideas about when RENT will be coming back over to the West End. I know there's alot of Buzz about it over on broadway but i've never seen it as much as i'd love to.

Really? I'm quite surprised as it didn't exactly set the West End alight last time. Another example of something not crossing the pond that well.Sebastian

When was Rent over here the last time? It might do better, due to the film in 2005. You never know.

I also think Idina Menzel's being in Wicked last year has brought in a lot more fans for her, and therefore her older work. I'm sure plenty of those who went to see her bought her back catalogue, and would now be more familiar with Rent.

I doubt very much the film will have any effect on the success or not of Rent in Britain. I know it bombed in America and I don't think it even got a release over here. I think it's a brave decision to produce 'Rent'. The show clearly does have a fan base, but is that fan base large enough to warrant a new West End production considering that the original didn't go down too well and the subsequent yout came under a lot of criticism.
However, rumour has suggested that the Trafalgar studios has been considered as a venue. This might be a good idea from an audience prespective as the show has a good chance of filling a small venue such as that, whereas I think the show would not sell well in a larger West End house.
I won't be called a baggage!

the movie did get a release here but not completely nationwide.
the trafalgar studios was where it was due to be opening last month, til they realised the studios weren't soundproof. it's been postponed til summer til a suitable theatre becomes available.

The Picc is still empty from May-July... Could work for a limited run?

Wasn't it rumoured to be going into there too?? I heard the Ambassadors didn't want it in any of their theatre as they didn't think it would sell
I'd love to see it back, in any theatre

ATG are DOING the production so i doubt they've got an 'it won't sell' attitude, or why would they be doing it?
