Can you reccomend any reasonably priced, say a £100+ a night, and decent to stay Hotels in New York for a four day break close to Theatreland , shops and sites. We're thinking of going in early May or July.

Don't know about price (certainly inexpensive), but Hotel Pennsylvania is good- surprisingly big rooms, clean, amazing midtown location (you'll walk to Times Square in about 5 minutes, and our room had a stunning view of the Empire State building).

Downsides are the noise (which would be significant if you're a light sleeper), and it's all a bit old/in need of a refurb. If you want luxury, try the Waldorf, but for value and somewhere just to sleep, Pennsylvania 6-5000!

I agree, Hotel Penn is good value for money, and it has a nice foyer wink.gif

Only downside for me was the bathroom, it was a bit old and I didn't really like the shower.

Otherwise, its good value and really close to Theatre land

Can't remember price, but wasn't too much-The Warwick Hotel on 54th and 6th. Gorgeous hotel, so close to everything. And I think the musical My Fair Lady was written in the bar there(just little bit of theatre info)!!

I was in NYC last month and was pleased with the Residence Inn New York Manhattan/Times Square. It's at 6th Ave./39th St., walking distance to Times Square/Theatre District/42nd St. subway. Not inexpensive, but they provide free buffet breakfast (better than typical free breakfasts) and the rooms have full-sized fridge, microwave, sink and dishes/cutlery, so you can save money by eating take out food in your room.

Have also stayed at Courtyard Marriott Manhattan/Fifth Avenue at 40th/5th Ave. Not fancy, but convenient to 5th Ave. shopping.

Have also stayed at Holiday Inn Midtown/57th. Again, no frills, but walking distance to Broadway and Central Park.

On a cheaper note, I know someone who's stayed at the Best Western President (http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/pr...pertyCode=33084) right in the middle of Theatre District.

I would also check Trip Advisor for ratings/reviews of hotels.

Avoid American holiday weekends for better rates at tourist class hotels, although luxury business hotels may be reasonable on holiday weekends (particularly downtown/financial district, but this is not convenient for theatre, shopping, and most tourist attractions, which are mostly in midtown).

Hi

I bid on Priceline and got the Millennium Broadway- 3+/4 star great location in Times Sq for just under £100 per night inc taxes

It was def worth it. I think it is a 4 star Times Square hotel on there. Only prob you are not sure what Times Square hotel you are going to get in the 4 star category but 4 star under £100 is great! smile.gif

I stayed at the Portland Square Hotel when I was in NY last year. Delightfully cheap, terribly basic, unbelievably well-positioned. Would definitely stay there again. happy.gif

I always like the Paramount on 46th between B'way and 8th. Starck designed it in the beginning of the 90s. Somewhat outdated perhaps, but love the lobby and Dean and Delucca. Cross the street and you're at Billy Elliot or In the Heights, nextdoor is The Little Mermaid....

I tend to stay in Marriotts because they have a fabulous hotel reward program.
Shop around. There are plenty of good deals to be found. Try Airport Information New York City or New York City Limousines
Good luck and safe travels!
