I was blown away when i went to see Masque of the Red Death a few weeks ago (a better experience even than Faust) and decided i want to know everyone's special little moments that only they saw. Here's mine:

I was in the Opium den where someone was getting high and stumbling about all over the place. The guy ran out so i followed him. After a pretty lengthy chase we stopped in a dark corner. He pressed me up against the wall and choked me (really choked me blink.gif ) and asked me what he should confess. He then told me about how he killed a man-reenacting taking out an eye and ripping out a heart on me. He then threw me against the opposing wall and asked my name and to confess something. Then he told me not be afraid and slipped me a piece of paper with a drawing showing a figure in a similar pose to myself (all this was done while rubbing huimself all over me by the way blink.gif ) before running off. Without a doubt the scariest moment i've ever had in a performance. So what are your experiences?

There is already a Red Death thread in the Dance/Other forum, but I have no problem with a new one being started. :-D

I saw it on Friday for the second time, and it was vastly improved from the first preview that I saw back in September. I still don't think it's better than Faust, but it is absolutely fantastic nevertheless!

Your experience sounds really exciting. :-D

I had an amazing one-to-one as well, when Pierrot (attractive man with the white clown make up) grabbed me by the hand and squeezed me into a tiny tiny little cupboard with him, then proceeded to take my mask off and paint my lips white. The tension was electric. He sent meout of the cupboard with a kiss on my cheek. :-D

Then later in the show, just by the marble staircase, a character having an outburst of rage grabbed me by the neck and dragged me to look in a mirror next to him. He pulled off my mask and upon seeing my white lips horror and fury poured out of him. It was amazing. He made me look at our faces in the mirror and screamed "WHAT DO YOU SEE??" Our shadowy faces and mywhite lips in the mirror looked so eerie. It was amazing.

Anyone else?
He used to call me — Blue Roses.

I didn't have painted white lips but I had the same experience with that man and the mirror. We looked in the mirror for ages, then another character came along and gave him a ring, which he put on the antlers of one of the mini deer statues on the table. He looked at me again and then whispered "You can never understand" in my ear before running off.

The best bit though was when I was stood watching the nurse - she looked up at me in horror, then grabbed a bottle of some kind of ointment and started chucking it at me. When I didn't move, she locked us in the room, then took my mask off and pushed herself right up against me, warning me about the Red Death. She told me about how one of the symptoms is blood seeping from the pores - then took my left hand to wash it. I couldn't see what she was doing as she was in the way, but when she moved away the basin of water was tinged with blood! She told me to promise I would be at Prince Prospero's ball and dance with her - then kissed me on the cheek, unlocked the door and ran off! It was the same girl who painted my nails while straddling me in Faust - awesome!

I thought the whole thing was amazing but it couldn't equal the awesomeness of Faust. What they'd done with the BAC was absolutely amazing and it was worth seeing for that alone - I kept thinking I'd seen everything and then I'd find another staircase and set of rooms - and I loved being able to sit in the Palais Royale but then also watch the acts from backstage as well. But despite there being so much to see bits of it were a bit cramped, particularly around the staircase - with so many people trying to see I ended up feeling like we were all tourists trying to see the Mona Lisa in the Louvre or something like that. I don't really remember ever feeling like that with Faust. I was also a little disappointed with the finale this time (which of course in Faust was just stunning) - the great hall itself looked amazing, but after all the build-up I don't think they quite did it justice. So I didn't come home almost unable to find words to explain the greatness of it (as I did with faust!) but it was a great evening.

I am going to see this on the 19th. I am ridiculously excited. Having seen Faust last year and been thoroughly overwhelmed by it I am sure this production can't possibly live up to my expectations. But I will wait and see!
