Okay, so this random thought came into my head today; who is the most annoying character in Musical Theatre? I just thought it would be interesting, and at the same time amusing, to see who makes everyone's blood boil! tongue.gif
London's West End: Wicked x2; War Horse; The Phantom of the Opera; Jersey Boys x2; Sister Act; Lend Me A Tenor; Betty Blue Eyes; Legally Blonde; Les Miserables.

UK Tour: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; Annie; Blood Brothers; We Will Rock You.

Jean-Michel in La Cage aux Folles - though I suppose if he wasn't a complete tw*t and had any common sense whatsoever, the show would have no story.

And then there are the utterly pathetic characters like Fiyero in Wicked, Cosette in Les Mis, Raoul in Phantom and Johanna in Sweeney Todd, all of whom make you wonder what their respective love interests see in them.

And 90% of child roles in anything. Gavroche being one of the worst offenders.

Marius - what a drip. Why Cosette and/or Eponine wasted any time over him when Enjolras was around I'll never understand!

Annie - children - enough said, same goes for Oliver.

Benny in Rent - just annoying.

Can't believe I forgot my namesake! You're right. He and Cosette deserve each other, actually!

The slave who gets crucified in 'Imagine This'- I don't think I've ever seen anything quite so grotesque in my whole theatre-going life.

And then there are the utterly pathetic characters like ... Cosette in Les Mis

Cosette irritates the hell out of me too. The word that comes to mind when I think of Cosette is "pointless". I don't mean the character is pointless within the context of advancing the plot. I mean that if she really existed people wouldn't be able to see the point of her.

From the production of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe I saw at the WYP a couple of years ago, I have to say that Mr Tumnus is utterly wet and useless in every respect. Considering how much trouble his general spinelessness and idiocy causes for his friends, I can't understand why he isn't venison sausages by the interval.

And then there's Christine Daaé. Sorry, phans, but if I knew Christine and I knew there was a stonking great lake under the Opera House I'd be heading for her dressing room with a big sack and a whole bunch of bricks. She causes no end of trouble for herself and everyone around her, and for no better reason than that she has the IQ of a sock.
In my opinion anyone interested in improving himself should not rule out becoming pure energy.

Meg Giry in Phantom.. really gets on my wick..

The Wizard in Wicked, whilst I totally get he his pretty important to the plot, his songs are dull. Same goes for Dillamond.

The amount of ballet girls in Billy Elliot

The kid version of Eponine who in London, does nothing..

The role of Cosette is so wet, it drives me to distraction especially when the producers insist on casting actresses who do nothing to change my perception of the character. I'm all for being proved wrong!

Also Les Mis producers, whilst you're listening...I beg of you, stop with the weak Fantine castings.
