OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY

Katie Mitchell is directing EURIPIDES' WOMEN OF TROY in the Lyttelton in November..............

I love El Nationale but this just makes me want to get down on one knee and pledge civil partnership right here right now in this room

Katie Mitchell is directing EURIPIDES' WOMEN OF TROY in the Lyttelton in November..............

It's Christmas come 10 months early.

When it was on it was pretty awesome, but since her production of Euripides' Iphigenia At Aulis has gone, it's continued to loom so large in my memory that it's really been feeling lately like the best thing I've ever seen onstage (whether you can ever accurately define such a loaded thing), so this news is like...truly...truly...the business.

The rest of the season sounds bloody good too - so many things I really don't know much about but can't wait to get into - but this above all gives 2007 depth and definition and while I'd like to think I'm not one of the groupie muppets who post on messageboards all the time, the vigil for this one definitely starts here. Oh yeah. I'm there. Bring it on.

YES. I am SO excited about this too. Her Seagull and Waves were two of my absolute favourite things last year.

I start university in October - if I can't get back to London for this, I might kill myself.

Well, I'm all a-flutter at the thought of seeing Ruth Wilson on stage in Philistines. wub.gif I fell completely, hopelessly, utterly in love with her while watching Jane Eyre.

I don't share your enthusiasm. The problem is that we all know now exactly what her production of Women of Troy will look like and sound like. Her recent productions I have seen have been basically all the same with her "style" dominating over the material. If you like that fine, but I prefer a bit more variety.

Like Jan, I find it hard to join in the Katie Mitchell love-in. Having seen a number of her recent productions I can't muster much enthusiasm for Troy, interested though I am in the piece itself. Didn't she do the recent-ish Three Sisters and Dream Play? If not I retract what I said but those are among ones that have left me cold, partly through the Mitchellisation.

I'd like to see a production of Troy, but preferably one that hasn't been Mitchellised. It's a pity that the NT can't seem to get enough of her, we need a change of tune.

It's gonna be good. I'm looking forward to it. When do we get those wretched little pamphlets with the dates etc?

I get the feeling that for those who are relative newcomers to KM her work is still seen as devastatingly wondrous. For those who've been around the block a bit and recall her from her RSC days it's all a bit bought the T-shirt, washed it till the colour faded, used it as a duster.

Her women of troy will no doubt be something like her phoenician women, which I enjoyed - in 1995. I think I'll leave the repeat to those who missed it first time round.

Well, since I was about 5 when she was at the RSC, I have to say I'm glad she's still working!
