A Day In The Death Of Joe Egg

01 May 2013 - 11:48 AM

The revival of Peter Nichols works continue with The Day in the Death of Joe Egg, currently playing at the Rose Theatre in Kingston.

I went to the opening performance last night and really enjoyed it. A play that puts severe disability centre stage, it's really well acted by the small ensemble cast led by Ralf Little & Rebecca Johnson. Unlike the recent revival of his Privates on Parade which I felt was tired & dated, this remains as relevant today as when it was written. Whilst our attitudes & approach to disability have improved immeasureably over time, the challenges faced by parents who have severely disabled children remain & this play shines a light on them brilliantly. It's a play that manages to make you laugh & also move you. Recommended.
