She's not old at all!! Cristin Milloti (the girl who plays the part in Broadway) is 27, and I think Madalena has the same age...
) So she's perfect for the role! ) And even more... usually actors are older than the characters they perform... By the way, Madalena is in the poll at the official website of Once...
