#222309 When Things Go Wrong - Mistakes In The West End!

Posted MoonPig on 26 May 2012 - 10:08 AM

Hi all, I thought it might be fun to swap stories of things we have seen that when wrong at various shows. I'll start with 2 pretty good ones:

1. At a Legally Blonde Matinee show shortly before they closed the run, the actress who was playing Margot started singing the first verse of 'oh my God You guys' an entire 4 bars early and for the rest of the beginning part of the song the tune she was singing didn't match what the orchestra was playing at all! I've never heard anything like it and was amazed as to how she could have got that wrong considering the number of times she had opened the show previously. Thankfully the next girl to sing got things back on track. was quite exciting to watch!

2. my second blooper was at Wicked. On a wednesday matinee, the trapdoor didn't open at the start of No Good Deed to let Rachel and the lectern with the grimeree on it up on stage. the whole audience heard Rachel say in her Irish accent 'what should I do?, should I just run on or what?'. Then the phone rang to let the conductor know there was a problem and the orchestra  kept playing the same bars of music over and over again until Rachel ran on from stage right. the only problem was that she took a while to work out that the orchestra was waiting for her and she got flustered with the first verse of the song. She was leaning forward on the stage making direct eye contact with the conductor, practically begging him to guide her. The conductor then began mouthing the words of where his music was up to. I swear I could she the whites if her eyes as she tried to get the song back on track. It was pretty hair raising especially as that is one of her big numbers in the show. At the end of the show she mouthed the word thank you to the conductor and patted her heart. Amazing.

#222308 The Amazing Siobhan Dillon

Ever since I heard Siobhan sing Songbird on the BBC I have been in awe of her beautiful voice. I saw her in Legally Blonde and more recently in Ghost. She  was fantastic in both roles. Any more Siobhan fans out there?
