The Upper Circle seating section was closed on Friday night's performance? I certainly haven't heard of that before for a musical, so that is pretty concerning for a musical. It seriously can't be selling that great at all if they can't even sell those seats. I sense it may close by August.

I saw the show when it was in Edinburgh in February and there were numerous occasions when the cast interacted with the audience and would dance and run through the aisles in the stalls. Old Deut also stayed on the stage throughout the 15 minute interval where a limited number of the audience were permitted to go up and get him to sign their programme. Photos weren't permitted though.

I could see this styel of musical - one that is technically demanding and requires a large theatre - would fair better with an arena tour instead. It's hard to predict if this were to transfer if it would be much of a success here.

I think this could perform really well on tour. It's a very popular, classic film so I think there will be plenty of people flocking for tickets at their nearest theatre who couldn't see it when it was running at the Palace. It's one of these feel-good, noteable musicals which appeal to a wide audience. It'll be interesting to see who they cast Kathy and Don.

Granted I was already pretty pessimistic just at the mention of this musical, but after reading the summary I had to laugh. I can already tell the critics will take the pleasure in slaughtering it for its predictable sounding plot, although I guess we will just have to wait and see. It might surprise in the end. But I don't think it'll be one of these musicals that appeals to a really wide audience. As someone has previously said, it'll be a Marmite musical; some will undoubtedly love it and others will despise it. Who knows? Perhaps it'll be good for entertainment value.
