Enron, by Lucy Prebble
10-14 July 2013
“It feels like the most exciting time to be doing business. There’s a feeling that the people who are gonna change things aren’t in parliaments or palaces, but in corporate boardrooms all over the United States of America.”
One of the most infamous scandals in financial history becomes a theatrical epic.
A case study and an allegory, the play charts the notorious rise and fall of Enron and its founding partners Ken Lay and Jeffrey Skilling, who became “the most vilified figure from the financial scandal of the century”.
Mixing classical tragedy with savage comedy, Enron follows a group of flawed men and women in a narrative of greed and loss which reviews the tumultuous 1990s and casts a new light on the financial turmoil in which the world finds itself.

About Me
What is Sedos?
Sedos stands for the Stock Exchange Dramatic and Operatic Society.
The society was founded in 1905 by senior members of the stock
exchange and, although the membership now includes an eclectic mix
from all over London, we maintain firm links with the City.
Sedos is a registered charity (no. 1099443) with over 200 members and
stages eight to 10 shows a year. We are the resident theatre company
at the Bridewell, a 130-seat theatre just off Fleet Street, and most of our
season takes place there, although we also perform in other venues.
Sedos is an amateur company, but we strive for professional standards
in both performance and production values.
“London audiences should take notice of Sedos, as its creatives are
clearly more than capable of giving their professional neighbours a run
for their money,” wrote thepublicreviews.com after our 2012 production
of Guys & Dolls. Broadway Baby gave our 2012 Edinburgh show As You
Like It five stars, saying: “Sedos is so close to being professional it hurts.”
Getting involved
Anyone can audition for a Sedos show, member or not. You can also
get involved in any aspect of production from designing flyers to building
sets, sewing costumes or selling programmes. Among our member
benefits (membership starts from £15 a year) is our popular Monday
evening dance class, Sedance — just £5 on the door.

Sedos Presents Autobahn
15 May 2013 - 07:25 PM
Autobahn, by Neil LaBute
16-20 July 2013
“We just keep doing lousy things, I guess. That’s what it is. All this lousy stuff that seems to finally catch up with us. Right?”
This provocative collection of one-act plays set within the confines of the front seat investigates the tentative apprehension that surrounds the steering wheel.
Each of these seven vignettes explore the ethos of perception and relationship: from a make-out session gone awry to a kidnapping thinly disguised as a road trip, a reconnaissance mission involving the rescue of a Nintendo 64 to a daughter’s long ride home after her release from rehab.
The result is an unsettling montage that gradually reveals the scabrous force of words left unsaid while illuminating the delicate interplay between intention and morality, capturing the essence of Middle America and the myriad paths which cross its surface.

Sedos Presents A Man Of No Importance
15 May 2013 - 07:22 PM
A Man of No Importance — book by Terrence McNally; music by Stephen Flaherty; lyrics by Lynn Ahrens
23-27 July 2013
“What we had was something.
What we had was rare.
Poetry and art in the air.
And friends…”
In Dublin in 1964, bus conductor and Oscar Wilde fan Alfie has ambitions to stage Salome, despite the objections of the church hierachy at St Imelda’s, where his amateur theatre group is based. When a newcomer to town, Adele, joins his passengers, he realises he has found the right person for the title role and starts to assemble his cast.
Meanwhile Alfie’s sister Lily mistakes her brother’s interest in Adele as romantic — she longs to have him off her hands so she can be free to marry. Little does Lily realise that Alfie’s love "dare not speak its name" and the object of his affections is in fact bus driver Robbie.
As opening night draws near, secrets come spilling out which threaten to shake this little community to its core. But camaraderie and the redeeming power of theatre offer a thread of hope in this story of friendship, forbidden love and finding our place in the world.

Final Chances To See Godspell - Great Reviews
12 April 2013 - 08:52 AM
Tonight (7.30pm) and tomorrow (2.30pm and 7.30pm) are the final chances to see Sedos's radical production of Godspell, set on the steps of St Paul's during Occupy London.
The show has had great reviews:
“This is quite simply the best amateur production I have ever seen... Jesus skateboards around the stage singing to ukulele playing masked ‘Anonymous’ members is one jaw-dropping highlight... Any director worth their salt would be proud of what Stanex and choreographer Kimberley Barker have achieved.”

Front Row Dress
“Pulses with unflagging energy... two hours of entertaining, well-paced musical theatre... The slickly professional movement work is a great credit to choreographer Kimberly Barker and really shows how a company of the calibre of Sedos can seriously blur the difference between professional and amateur work.”

Sardines (the UK's professional magazine for amateur theatre)
“This production confounds expectations on every level.”
