What an amazing night! Liza was pure entertainment as always. I wasn't aware of Clare Teal before tonight either, she's incredible! My blogged memories here: http://dealj.wordpre...l-1-march-2013/

Fantastic review, far more eloquent that I could ever write. I was going to blog about it too, but there's no point because you have done it so beautifully. Thanks so much Deal J.

It is shoddy, unprofessional and shows a total lack of respect to the nominees and even the validity of their own awards.

Well said Freckles, agree with every word, particularly Ayam's scene stealing bum. I went again yesterday and loved it (the show and the bum) even more.

Judging by his tweets last night however, Daddy Shenton hated it. I hope he's in a minority.

I've finally manged to put down my feelings on my blog, but it really is a cynical, artless money making excercise. To be honest I feel sorry for the cast who surely realise what a crock they are performing in. By the way Parsley, they only had £85 seats when I booked (my Mum's in town it was meant to be a pre-Christmas treat for her, she said she felt she was at an amateur production and she usually loves everything). Here's a link to my blog review if you fancy it, to be honest I'm even wondering why I gave it two stars http://www.frontrowd...tre-monday.html

Here's me starting a new topic with a link to my blog, but this is honestly such a joyous two hours I was crying at the end for no other reason than it made me so happy. Stephen Ashfield (original London Bib Gaudio) is great and the choreography from Lee Proud (Victor/Victoria at Southwark Playhouse) is incredible. Lovely 1930's pastiche songs and the cutest company you're ever likely to see. If you need to forget the doom and gloom give yourself a treat. Extensive raving on my blog http://www.frontrowd...et-theatre.html

#246689 Merrily We Roll Along @ Menier & Pinter

Well they've obviously sorted the problems with pollution, as we were in the second row and didn't feel any ill-effects. Just shows what an extra week of previews can do though, as I thought it really couldn't be bettered. Jenna Russell is heartbreaking, but the entire cast are tremendous, as is the nine piece brass heavy band. I've out and out raved on my blog, but just give yourself an early Christmas present and buy a ticket. http://www.frontrowd...-chocolate.html

Jim, as as been said elsewhere, AC has a far better choice than PBP, but PBP sometimes has big West End shows that AC doesn't. WhatsOnStage is hopeless, just the odd fringe theatre and only usually one or two shows at a time. I just let my WoS membership lapse this week, but get lots of use out of the other two.

A potentially great evening let down by a totally miscast lead actor who was so out of his depth it was untrue. Joe McElderry seems to be a lovely young bloke, but all the worst fears about his performance came true. http://www.frontrowd...-monday-12.html

It zoomed straight over my head, I'm sticking to blowsy musicals, preferably set in the 1930's http://www.frontrowd...thursday-8.html

#239636 Loserville (West End Run)

Posted Front Row Dress on 04 October 2012 - 11:45 AM

I'm probably way too old for this, but the story & dialogue really are terrible, as are the dreadfully over the top performances, presumably at the behest of the director. The songs are good, but the show simply isn't West End ready and I doubt it can be sorted out in the two weeks left to opening night. I really don't know how they can expect this to be successful as it seems to be aimed at very young teenagers who won't fill the Garrick every night at £45-£50 a pop. A shame as their history shows that James Bourne and Elliot Davis are very talented writers. I've moaned a bit longer on my blog, but not too much more http://www.frontrowd...ednesday-3.html

From the same creatives as Mack & Mabel which was my favourite thing this year, so looking forward to this.

There are also some "cabaret seats" at tables, maybe more comfy...??!

But they are £27.50, if you book now tickets are only £10, I'll save the £17.50 and buy a cushion :)

#222862 Lost Musicals @ Lilian Baylis

Posted Front Row Dress on 31 May 2012 - 08:41 AM

Does anyone else go to these? They really are a dream for MT nerds (hands up from me). They've only got two on this year  (it's normally three). Cole Porter's Aladdin is coming later, but this Sunday June 3rd are the last two performmaces of Flahooley  by Yip Harburg (Wizard of Oz) and Sammy Fain (Calamity Jane). We went last week and loved it. No costumes, set, props, just 19 great performers and a piano. It's a strange little show which is is basically a thinly veiled attack on capitalism and the McCarthy withchunts, all set in a toy factory. Honestly it's a great was to spend a Sunday afternoon. There's more on my blog if you're interested http://frontrowdress...-studio-at.html
