Also, even a hit show (the Phantom probably being the exception, perhaps Les Mis as well) must see a decline in audience numbers over five and ten and fifteen years, so assume there's logic in relocating to a smaller theatre on that basis. You open a new show on the basis it's going to be a hit and you'll be packing them in. The Palace seats 1,400... the Queen's 1,099. Though the PoW seats 1,160... The Novelllo 1,105. Perhaps 55 seats on a revenue basis is not that big gap to prove the theory.

As posted before, I saw it at The Novello and the bloom came right off the rose. Seemed so cramped to me. I always see Mamma Mia! when I am London, which is a few times a year... just because it's silly good value. Last trip, couldn't be bothered. The Novello somehow killed it for me. Sounds silly, I know, but the experience seemed muted somehow, so that fever's apparently broken.

I wonder if Ramin Karimloo in Toronto is a warm up for Broadway.

I did love the orchestrations of Stars. Javert's suicides, where the music does shift to reflect the turmoil in his mind leading him to suicide, felt like three short songs glued together to me.
