In Topic: Bad Behaviour At A Show

saw the woman in black tour on staurday in MALVERN ! now ive visited here many times to see many different shows and always found the audience respectful , and if there were ever a time when you needed a quiet audience it is for this play ... it was sold out and appeared to be lots of teenagers too (maybe after seeing the film) not realising the play is not like the film i did hear a phew sighs around me as it started .... but the main gripe was the amount of coughing at one point we counted a sequance of 16 coughs going aorunt the theatre  started by a chap at the back who continualy coughed for most of the first half before going out side , everytime the tension built and it all went quiet someone would cough !! it wasnt just one occaisionlly  but it started everyone off like a mexican wave  spoiled the night .. as well as the constant rustle of sweet wrappers ! if i have a cough i make sure i have water and cough sweets  ...i just find many people seem to think they are at home watching there tv in the pjs these days :)

I loved both of those, and especially the latter. Hard Times really struggled to get anyone through the door at all, which was surprising because there was nothing about it that screamed "avoid me at all costs" and it seemed to go down exceptionally well with those who did buy tickets. (It's also one of the few shows that ended up as a framed poster in my house.)

i agree  i enjoyed hard times greatly , it did deserve to do better  i have the mini cd  and still play it , it didnt deserve the awful press it got , ive seen much worse that has run for a year or so :) lol

i agree with above comments  avenue q esp would have suited Alex better  as would have END of the RAINBOW  which looked a bit swamped at the hipp , Birmingham has some great theatres  Old rep  too still a great house , the crescent as stated above too , i personaly find in this current climate ticket prices too high , i myself would rather drive to london for instance have a lovely afternoon and see a show half price rather than same show  currently touring , i cant justify paying over £35 pound for a touring show :(

must say ive not been to the Alex for years , always struck me as quite unwelcoming , and auditorium quite cold
as you say it has been there along time , i know it used to attract great shows in the 80`s & 90`  but they now tend to go to the hipp who have invested a great deal in backstage and front of house fascilities , also a lot of the shows they have are often at grand wolves or malvern around the same time i would much rather go to Malvern  as smaller theatre so better view  and some times cheaper tickets and also do standby club which can save £££.
and dont forget the REP too as opens soon .i used to go to grand wolves  many times but as there ticket prices went up and up  i stopped

just an aside  but i didnt realise the ICC had a full theatre audatorium  until watchin BGT  its so underused anyone else know anything about it  poss called Quayside theatre
