I still think the great glass elevator finale needs work and I hope they enable them to float over the audience or something to that effect.

As this is the spoiler thread, I will say to stand on a platform that rises out of the stage was pretty sad... and, once again, I am sure that was an element that was added last minute.

It's funny, isn't - the paper airplane illusion remains one of the most memorable elements of the show!   Wonder how it would've been if Paul Kieve got his hands on it...

So I bit the bullet and day seated. I got there at 6am, and there was around 16 people ahead of me. Still, I managed to grab a pair of matinee seats so was rather happy. But, I hated it. I thought it started rather well, but it got lost around a third of the way. However it would have seemed I was very much in the minority based on audience reactions... Glad to see others here share my impressions!

It was a deal via London Theatre Direct. It was only posted (via Facebook) on Monday evening about 4 hours before the actual performance began. If you use facebook, they are worth a like. They sometimes have some really nice last moment deals.

They do have the same seats available for 17.50 on most other nights though. If you book on a week night the chances are you'll be upgraded either way since the upper circle is closed most nights.

I saw this in its first week of previews but hadn't been back until last night.  Wow!   They have really pulled this together.  Full marks to Thea Sharrock for an amazing job of directing this extremely complex show and making it run like clockwork.  Her cinematic concept is now fully functioning - one smooth scene transitioning perfectly into the next.  I was in awe.

Problems have been fixed.  The projections in the second act chase scene have been trimmed back and the scrim has been eliminated.  The Academy Awards action has been restaged and is now much more effective.   The book scenes - much maligned in some quarters - are all working because the actors are now fully invested in their roles.  The chemistry between Heather Hadley ( yes, she was on last night!) and Lloyd Owen is clearly evident on stage.  And, of course, Heather, in fabulous voice, is a force of nature.

Bravo to the company.  The show is in great shape and I had a great time last night.

I think the show will be slaughtered by the critics but I think it should run for a year or so. Its pointless trying to be faithful to the film as some things just don't translate to stage well at all.
