The Rise And Fall Of Little Voice Uk Tour

24 January 2013 - 07:48 PM

Just come back from Newcastle seeing The rise and fall of Little Voice uk tour. What an impressive show. I had seen it at the Vaudeville theatre 3 years ago with Diana Vickers as LV and loved it then. Jess Robinson is sensational as Little Voice, she plays her character very well as the reclusive teen, listening to her dad's old records. Her mental breakdown was incredibly moving and my heart just went out to her. And when she sung it was amazing. She really captured the spirit of the divas she was singing. Her song at the end had me in tears it was so emotional as she sung to her father.

I was a bit dubious about Ray Quinn's casting when i read that he was playing Billy but after seeing him perform he did quite well. He was really good at playing awkward and was very sweet to watch in his scenes with Jess.

Beverley Callard as Mari, i wasnt to impressed with to be honest. I found her too hyper and a bit too much like Liz McDonald from Coronation Street. She was ok but I think I prefer Lesley Sharp's portrayal. Beverely just wasnt angry or intense enough for me and in some scenes which are supposed to be moving and serious there were a few audience members laughing which I found innapropriate.

The rest of the cast were fantastic, before the show started and before act 2 Mr Boo and the ensemble were mixing with the audience, playing a raffle and bingo and it did make you feel like you were in his night club. A guy sitting 2 rows behind me won a tin of evaporated  milk much to the amusement of everyone else. Really enjoyed this production and wish I could see it again!
