Saw the movie yesterday. I thought Hugh Jackman was ok, until I heard his "Bring Him Home" and his voice sounded too harsh to me. Guess that's because I'm used to hearing Ramin Karimloo or Alfie Boe sing it, and the tone of their higher register is so different from Jackman's. Otherwise, I thought he was adequate--not mind blowing, but adequate. I thought Ann Hathaway was amazing!

On a different note Simon Bailey, whom I think is one of the best Raoul's ever, has a new album out in which he sings duets with Ramin, Sabrina , and katie, and on which Hadley plays bass! The album is done as a tribute to Simon's late father, and Simon wrote 4 of the songs himself. It can be purchased at Dress Circle or at www.SimonBaileyonline.com.
It's quite reflective, and well worth the 12.99 fee.

I haven't seen Marcus perform, so this news makes me sad. You are right. The Phantom needs to be up to it vocally, and there are plenty around who are. I always thought Stephen John Davis, who was an alternate Phantom was much better than David Shannon, or Peter Joback, and I don't understand why Stephan is always the understudy. Don't know if I will want to see this production again , after the reviews, until a cast change. I've seen the touring version twice, once with John Owen Jones, and once with Earl, and I really think I prefer that version and cast, sad to say.

As far as I know, it was just Earl and JOJ, so don't think there will be another unless JOJ steps back in. They were sharing the role.
