Just got back from seeing the Dreamgirls US Tour - I can't decide how I feel about the show on stage, in one way I thought it was great but then it didn't blow me away like I expected. I really really like the film so I was expecting the show to be even better.
Has there ever been a UK professional version? I don't ever remember seeing that there was? If not do we think it would work in the UK on stage?
I think some of the songs are fantastic and I like all the big 'argument' songs which work on stage well as well as the standard songs like dreamgirls, I am telling you etc. I did think that the show was a little bit long though and that the plot was tightened up a bit in the film
Any thoughts?

It's not just to prevent the theatre being ripped off. It's also to protect the public. It would be easy for someone to exchange their tickets and then sell on the now voided original tickets to some unsuspecting member of the public who wouldn't discover the problem until too late. Then they can sell the exchanged genuine tickets as well and do a disappearing act. Considering the value of tickets these days, someone could make over £100 with nothing more than a temporary mailing address.

I think they've been clever with their pricing actually. The £65 you mention is for a very limited number of premium seats, the top price actually being £45 for weekdays and £49.50 on Saturdays - surely the lowest for a West End musical?
AND, they have loads of seats for only £25 - this from the press release:
"25,000 tickets to Loserville will be available for £25 or less during the first booking period, which runs until 2 March 2013. Nica Burns, CEO of Nimax Theatres, which owns the Garrick, said: “I had a ball when I saw this show at West Yorkshire Playhouse. Be daring! For only £25 you too can discover this fresh, fizzy, fun and delightfully original contemporary musical with a young cast bursting with talent. If you aren’t 25, you’ll feel like it!”
Wish them luck!

ROA producers are not good at making official announcements or engaging with their fans in any way (e.g. on their Facebook or twitter).
